Messantia map legend question.

Mongoose
As the numbers on the inside covers of the GMs guide don't match the numbers inside the book (in the Prefects chapter), I'd like to know which ones are correct. Anyone got an idea?

PS. Very uncool, Mongoose. The boxes should be 'musthaves' and so far they are below the level of other supplements...

The numbers on the inside covers match up to the correct map locations.

Two locations fell through the cracks in the Games Master's Guide: Labrencis' Market in Bazaar Prefect and Pointed Words in River Prefect. The description for Labrencis' is still there, though it lost its number, in the same bit of text as the description for Nine Smoke Rings (#91). Pointed Words was originally #132, described in this chapter simply as 'weaponsmith and bowyer'. It is mentioned in somewhat greater detail in the Games Mastering chapter (it's the second bullet point under Consistency and Continuity).

Hope this helps, and sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for the info. I was a bit dissapointed when I took a random site number from the map and found out that the book says it's X (I don't have the book in front of me right now) and the legend on the inside covers says it's something completely different. It is still a good supplement, but - as I probably mentioned before - I would rather buy a 128-page softcover book including the Game Master's Guide and the Vengeance of the Golden Skull.

I have just the pdf, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't contain "the numbers on the inside cover." Please advise.

Thanks!

Reading a lot of harsh reviews. FWIW, I thought the box was good. I'm starting a new campaign in a few weeks. I'm thinking about using Messantia as the "home base" for my campaign. Of course, much of that will be dependent on the PCs decisions, but that is the direction I'm leaning.

I'm going to start with Slavers Caravan, only with Messantia instead of Shadizar, and then run Vengeance of the Golden Skull.

I don't have Messantia, but I do have Shadizar, and regarding that one...it's a mixed bag. The map fiasco was horrible, but there is some good crunchiness in the texts. I rarely read anything at all about Messantia, which is probably not a good thing.

I believe Greg is talking about the inside of the GM Guide book where all the locations from the Map are listed by the nature of the business i.e. government buildings, dancing halls, etc. I really like the Messantia box set way more than the Shadizar box set. I think Vengeance of the Golden Skull is one of the best pre-fab adventures the 'Goose has put out for Conan. Gotta run, i'll post some more later.

What do you mean by "pre-fab adventures"? I think Vengeance of the Golden Skull is excellent as well. Can't wait to run it.

I found this:

That is a breakup of the locations based on Prefect, where the list on the inside of the GM Guide is by business type.

Pre-Fab = pre-fabricated. Adventures written by Mongoose for GM's to use.

Ah, that sounds useful. Anyone know where that's at in the PDF (or if that's in the PDF)?

Thanks.
