Mercenary companies are common inside the Aslan Hierate and within the Buffer that separates the Hierate from the Third Imperium. The entire region teems with conflicts large and small being fought at a wide variety of tech levels.
Given all this, Mercenary is another Mongoose Traveller book that works very well with The Deep and the Dark. Many people probably picked up a copy of Mercenary during the recent Bundle of Holding sale, and The Deep and the Dark describes several merc units working this section of Charted Space.
