MavenCon - ACTA Tournament Debut!!!

Just for clarification: The Tournament Pack at the end of the link on the first page of this thread is the final, revised version, right?

That's good. Just wanted to be sure.

"One more thing!"

What's the address for the event? I'm not really sure where I'm going...

Just a question:

Was it your intention to ban taking

-- One Drakh Ma'cu and One Drakh Ria'vash?
-- Two Drakh Ria'vash?

As you have it right now, due to the Huge Hangar restrictions, that's exactly what is occurring. Or do you mean to simply restrict the Drakh to one Ma'cu (completely reasonable!).

I didn't have a specific pairing in mind for the fleet restrictions, just that it was not fair for the Drakh to be able to essentially double their Fleet Allocation Points in a tournament format.

I can't wait to see you all there!

So I am trying to decide whether to come up Friday and get a hotel or just drive up Sat Morning (I am about 2 hours away). I was wondering how many people were planning on pick up gaming ACTA on friday?

Because of work, I probably won't be able to get there till some time between 8-9 PM.

I should be in by 3 pm. I will have several fleets to play. :D

I expect to get there at around 2200. Maybe as early as 2100 local time on Fri. Depending, of course, on whether enalut still needs a ride...

But if anyone is up for a game that late (and I can still stand after 10 hours driving (I expect to be able to), then I will have a cuple fleets I can play...

I hear there are a couple slots that opened up recently, as people dropped out. If you want to go to Mavencon for the ACTA tourney, you should probably contact Bryan Steele to see if those slots are still open.

Also, we tried out the BATTLE FOR SECTOR 14 tournament pack on Saturday and it is pretty cool. The 1.5 hour time limit is short! But the scenarios are cool. I think there is a definite advantage to the defender of the Assassinate! scenario, especially with the 1.5 hour time limit. I think the Victory Points should be reversed. If the attacker is able to destroy the opponent's flagship, he should get +10 VP and the defender should get +5 VP if the flagship survives.

I'll see some of you at Mavencon!

The test-tourney this last Saturday brought a few things to light about the tourney, but I really don't think it was bad at all. It definitely has me ready for the big MavenCon event now.

What I learned:

1. 1 1/2 hours makes for fast and hard games. No stalling at all. They could probably do better at 1 hr and 45 minutes, but I prefer the hard-n-fast style of play that a shorter time frame hopefully creates.

2. Taking the planet in the Planetfall scenario is paramount, it can really be the deciding factor for some games.

3. Anyone choosing to be the Attacker in the Assassinate! scenario really must gun it hard for that flagship - it is worth too many points not to!

and 4. Small tourneys with several good-looking fleets and good players (for Sportsmanship) can be VERY tight as far as judging goes. :)

Can't wait for Saturday!
