Magic and Runes Chapter 6 - Core Rulebook

I spotted the discussion that the Dragon Form Rune has been removed as that is reached via the Dragonewt Form Rune.

I've probably missed this somewhere, but the errata for the Core Rulebook says that 'Shadow' (Power Rune) should be replaced with 'Darkness' (Elemental Rune) in opposition to the 'Light' (Power Rune).

I would have thought that 'Shadow' as an emanation of 'Darkness' would make more sense in the same way that 'Light' would be an emanation of 'Fire' (Sun).

I like the idea of 'Rune Touched', that's why I'm assuming that 'Shadow' should be in there as well as 'Darkness'.

I was just thinking from a Middle Earth perspective, that the Runes could equate to principalities and powers of Eä, e.g., Air = Manwe, Water = Ulmo, etc. The Rune Touched part would then equate to traits / abilities for races / characters, etc, e.g. Elves Plant (Vána). "Flowers were said to open, and birds sing, at her passing."

It would require some change to cater for the Aratar, Valar and Maiar, but it could be very interesting and certainly workable! Hence the 'Shadow' (Power Rune) as part of the make-up of the agents of the Enemy.

I'd have Power Runes of Light/Shadow and Heat/Cold.

Each of the Elemental Runes could have emanations. Earth has Dust (Malign Earth) so would need a Good Earth rune as a counter. Water and Air would also need two sub-runes. We currently have Darkness (Shadow/Cold) and Fire (Light/Heat).

I've always thought that Sky should be a Form Rune and in a non-Gloranthan world it would be (allowing Dark Sky cults or Storm Sky cults).

Losing the Dragon rune doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but I've given up trying to use the standard runeset and tend to use my own associations these days.

I was thinking along similar lines. Each Elemental Rune having two emanations. I scrapped the entire base runeset and started creating my own. If an existing rune fit in well then I'd use it but otherwise it's gone; as well as redefining what runes belong to a given category.

Even for Glorantha I find the main runeset to be...lacking. For a homebrew I find it completely inadequate. Fortunately the system is flexible enough that you can do something like rewrite all the runes and everything still works fine.

Could you be persuaded to post your homebrewed runes? I'd certainly be interested in having a look.
