Karia questions

Banded Mongoose
1. In the Ralios book the land of Karia is situated west of Dorastor, next to Kartolin pass and extends quite far into Ralios. But in 3rd age materials, Karia is just the small strip of land between Kartolin pass and the small mountain chain (presumably an outlier from W Rockwood Mtns). Which version is correct? Or did Karia cover more land in the 2nd age?

2. I can´t seem to find any detailed descriptions on Karia in the printed sources (both 2nd and 3rd age). Are there any such sources (with maps, history, people of note etc)?

3. Kartolin fort is said to guard the entrance to (or exit from) Dorastor, and is manned with diverse forces (for example Lunars) in the 3rd age, but who's in charge of Kartolin fort in the 2nd age?

Hi GianniVacca, and thanks for your comment!

That is correct, but some time in the second half of the 800's it is said that "Dorastor awakens" (see "Dorastor - Land of Doom", "Lords of Terror" and "Book of Drastic Resolutions - Chaos issue".

It is theorized that this happens due to the weakening of Arkat's protective spells after his demise at the hands of the God Learners, and that chaos slowly begins to populate Dorastor. 3rd age sources also mentions immortal warriors guarding Castle Kartolin, and also others, like various krjalki and mercenaries from all around.

I am not sure but it is said in the Ralios book or The second age book that god learners did something to Karia that messed up the protective spells arkat cast on Karia

I ran a 3rd age Karia game for a good 10 years in the 90s.

There's a partial write up of the background, history, setting, mythology and Gazeeter in Hearts in Glorantha issue 1. http://d101games.co.uk/books/hearts-in-glorantha/ for preview and more info.

I choose it as an area to set my RQ3 campaign because apart from a couple of sentences in Genertela the Crucible of the Hero Wars there wasn't anything published, and still really isn't, yet its surrounded by several fun and interesting cultures.

My advice it make your own Karia and go wild with it :)

Well, thanks Newt!

I'm planning to go wild on Karia, but I always like to mine the published sources for ideas and flavor. If I don't agree - it's my version that rules :-)

I'll check out the magazine mentioned...

12 full pages about Karia. I recommend it if you really want to set your campaign in Karia. There is a nice map with a gazetteer, and a section about Karia mythology & history.
