Jump 6 Fleet Courier

How about the other way around, a more capable and expensive version?
Something like the Naval Scout/Courier:
400 Dt, J-6, M-6.
Regular scoops but Radiation Shielding, Improved Stealth, and Repair Drones.
A drop tank collar, so it can make two J-6 by dropping the tank.
Decent sensors with ELPI, so more difficult to detect when using active sensors. A sensor station to avoid the DM-1 for Small Bridge.
Four full staterooms with a small common area.
One laser turret, one missile turret, two sandcaster turrets. One gunner to reload the turrets.
The missile turret is for anti-missiles and sensor drones, not offensive operations.
A total of six Dt of cargo and magazine space for extended ops and at least one reload...

The stealth is expensive but gives a DM- TL difference to the enemy to detect.
What is ELPI and where do I find it?

A no expense spared scout. It's actively ridiculous. :)

Ok, meeting all the minimum requirements without optional rules. 222,865,500.00 Cr, TL 15. It's based off the HG Fleet Courier, so M-5, but it's got 5 staterooms, so you can save a little by dropping the virtual gunner if you want, or carry a passenger. Turn around time is still less than 48 hours. It does have countermeasures and enhanced signal processing, so improved over the HG design. You could easily add the autodoc taking 0.5 tons of cargo space and adding 3 MCr to the design. This would make up for not having a doctor aboard.

Unlike T5, MgT does not have a crew comfort rating that would resolve these disputes. Very few people are going to function long term with just a work station and a coffin to sleep in.

The reality is that barracks are just where someone sleeps and you are not going to have functioning Marines (or any other crewperson) with just barracks allotted to them. However, Traveller tends to actually itemize the additional Marine space requirements like armories, gyms, training rooms, etc instead of expecting them to be improvised out of the passenger's cabin allotment, as is done with staterooms.

You absolutely can use barracks or cabin space for long term residence, but only because the game neglects to implement rules crew morale and NPCs will always take the crappy jobs you offer, because they don't actually have free will or other opportunities.

But that's not how it would actually work if you tried to do that with real people. Even submarines have rec rooms, exercise facilities, and the ability to surface for "steel beach" parties where the crew can get out and shake off some of the claustrophobic vibes.

The new vehicle handbook will address comfort levels and I’d expect it to get into the next High Guard update.

And the mandatory drop tank shenanigans...

Naval courier:
420 Dt with 280 Dt internal tank (module) + 280 Dt drop tank.
Can do 2 × J-4 retaining the tank (so can follow a fleet retaining a drop tank).
Can do 2 × J-6 dropping the tank.
Can do 1 × J-6 without any drop tank.
Can do 1 × J-4 with a drop tank and an internal 280 Dt mission module.
M-2 with drop tank, M-3 without tank.
No sensors, no weapons, no fun.
Five crew (Pilot, Nav, 3 Eng), three staterooms, one Dt cargo. One supernumerary possible.
MCr 200 in quantity.

Awesome! More toys for me to learn to optimize. :)
Be aware that the JTAS #4 article is from 2019 and has been overtaken by High Guard versions and updates.

I like them in general, but if you use the JTAS #4 rules then be aware that you can end up with your TL15 stealth ships (-6) on extreme emcon (-2) using passive ELPI sensors (-3) vs TL 12 ships (-3) inflicting a -14 penalty on ships trying to detect them. Which means that someone is going to get one-shotted with a beam called-shot to their sensors (or power plant or guns if they get bored and gamble). Starting at -14 your stealth ship can saunter up at 5G on a ship with a skill-3 operator using improved sensors and still have zero chance to detect them. So handle with care!

They can, once in called-shot range, move more slowly and use their guns at will and still not risk detection. That all sounds fun to keen player Joe Minmaxer until it happens to them instead...
