I'm planning on running a 'Hotdog run' for 12th year cadets as an introduction to some new players.. Does that sound feasible, character gen-wise?

Its a very good idea.

Take the characters up to Year 12 in chargen and then play using the characters as developed. Once the game's finished, continue the chargen (for those who survive, of course)...

You can actually Run functional Games at certain parts of the Character generation. Hot Dog Run, and Full Eagle Day, are pretty good opportunities for newer players to get their feet wet.

Those are both in the Traveller version.

Yep, as was said, In the Traveller version. Traveller version you can have functional games during Character creation.

Managed to get a good couple of weeks of games out of a Hotdog run, and Full eagle Day is a great starting point for any campaign, provided you aren't using seasoned judges, but even then, you can get one good Full Eagle Day game going to let people get their feet wet. Makes for a good time. d20 version, bleh.

Not that I didn't have it or had fun with Dredd while it was under those rules but it's SO much easier faster and true to the comic form now with the Traveller Engine under the hood.

yeah I still got no Bad Moon Rising here yet at my FLGS. They Have.......PILES of 4e material. yet seem to have a problem replacing all the Mongoose stuff I sell out for them.
