JMS update pics

and the reason they useed the nav hazard was to play down the threat of the raiders, it wouldnt look good if they had to admit the raiders were good enough to reactivte a space station so they blew it up and lied about why. what i dont get is why they closed it down. surely it would have been a good place for the ISA or someone, neutral but still well known?

Very sad clip, and then "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!". Love it .

Although, that bit is a very touching moment in the series, about as touching as when Sheridan leaves Bab 5 for the Minbari headquarters, or when he's in Bab 5 and hears the voices of all the stuff that happened in the past. JMS is just the master.

The hazard to navigation? Someone else taking it over and using it as a base to blow up people's freighters... Or maybe the EA just didn't want the ISA to have a "neutral" heavily armed base in it's territory...

It did have a frightening amount of firepower when it was active - could you imagine a raider fleet scavenging it for parts/weapons?

Personally - I wanted to hear Zathras complaining that he was going to have to sweep up the mess as the bits of B5 re-entered Epsilon 3's atmosphere... :D

As far as the picture goes? Honestly it looks like a bad layering job - if they put the Primus and the Hyperion behind the Sharlin and the Vree - it looks like it would be a pretty good perspective shot...

Yeah I never understood that...

I never quite got why B5 was a navigation hazard, it was thew only thing of note in the whole system, so they wouldn't be any point of going there once it had ceased operation...

Note only the captain in station said it was navigational hazard...And in a way that made me feel like "he just tried to invent something up". More likely reason: Who is stupid enough to leave MILITARY station floating there empty? With all those big guns and docking bays and whatnot would make wonderfull base for raiders...

So either you get rid off it or you keep maintaining it...Maintain useless station. Yup yup. Tax payers are going to love it.

whys it useless?

Because, as mentioned in the episode, the ISA had taken over much of the role B5 had been created for. Promoting trade and peaceful cooperation between races.

LBH

Plus, it's just easier to build a big, bad-ass Babylon 6 than upgrade Babylon 5 to Babylon 5.1

Let's see...Nobody goes there...How about that?-)

Trade has moved elsewhere by that point.

No-one goes there=no money from jump gates etc=stations generating lots of money loss=time to get rid of it.

ISA basicly took over it's job. Trade moved elsewhere, ISA HQ moved to Minbar...What is there to do? It doesn't serve as it's original job anymore(that's on Tuzanor now...) and it doesn't have any value as trade. ONLY value it has is as historic relic but does that generate enough visitors to maintain the _expensive_ maintanance costs? Very unlikely...

JMS went for more realistic future than in many sci-fi shows so "money talks" is very likely motto in B5 as well

That was my thought as well.

until Draal dies in which case there will probably be no-one to take over from him

Zathras(one of the many...)?

but then if Zathras could take over the great machine then one of them probably would have taken over before instead of calling out for help
