IS it the END???

Mongoose
Ok...so I"ve had the revised edition now for a couple months...and only had the opportunity to play it a couple times. Is that edition truly dead...TOTALLY reworked in the 2ed, or is the 2ed going to simply elaborate and clean things up a bit? I will of course buy it, but I am thinking of the other fellas I play w/ that refuse to buy stuff and just have me teach them...they'll be looking at me like I'm crazy if I ask them to forget all they know and start from scratch. A little help please...thanks

The fundamentals of 2nd ed are the same, for example movement rules, firing sequence, ship traits (new ones added though), weapon traits (new ones added), Special Actions, etc. It's just all the details, modifiers, target numbers, ship stats that change.

I get the impression that (modified statlines aside) you could probably describe the changes in a couple of pages of a pdf.

It is (so we are promised) a big balancing act, but it's not a drastic change.
Not to the scale of learning to play from scratch, anyway. All the classes of ship are still there (or at least every ship with a model/counter is still there) and there are only limited changes in priority level (which still works in the same way).

Essentially, if you're getting the book anyway, you can keep on playing with the same fleets with the new stats, with little drastic change.

Incidentally, if they try it, and really, really object, what does it matter if you continue using first edition rules amongst yourselves?

Mongoose isn't going to send a group of cyborg ninja assassins* around to punish you for doing so, are they?

* They can't - the mould collapsed.

yes I think the rules changes are considerably less than the ships - probably none exactly the same as before. Once you have adjusted to the the revised Beam, fighter / anti fighter rules, few extra traits etc you should be fine.................If you are anything Like our group the first few times you play a game various things you get wrong so will be just like that...?

Its much better that you only have the basic rules set rather than SFOS / Armegdeon etc...............

So, depending on how much actually changes, you might only need the new fleet book, and a few notes about the rules changes.

The good thing is: one rule set should be enough for most groups, so if you´re buying the second ed anyway, your friends should be satisfied. They can always buy their own rules stuff later! :D

I bought the PDf of the last one, but I suspect i'll buy the actual book this time round (finances permitting) maybe talk to my mates, we could buy 2 copies of the rules and fleets between the 5 of us :-)
