Imperial Marshal Service?

Mongoose
So I have ended up running a tiny campaign (one player, so far) where the PC is working for a company that whose main business is personal security for traveling VIPs. I wanted a career path for some of the NPCs that would give them appropriate skill sets, including a new "security" skill I have added, so I created a Security career. In the "New Traveler" edition, all of the careers have three sub-paths, and that's when it occurred to me - the Ministry of Justice needs a Marshal Service that performs the same role as the US Marshal Service does for the US DOJ.

So the security career path would have three subpaths: physical security, personal security, and Imperial Marshal.

Or is there some aspect of the Third Imperium that I have overlooked in my ignorance?

You don't need a marshals service. In a lot of countries, what they do is done by the police or the constabulary instead. But there's no Imperial Police, either.
In my Traveller universe, the Imperial Navy enforces the law, and sometimes there's a special investigator appointed by the Emperor or a duke to look after a specific case.

If you care, there is some information here:

The Imperial Ministry of Justice (MoJ) seems to have the Justice Special Branch

The Emperor's Office of Security seems to have the Imperial Bureau of Internal Security (IBIS)

Those are probably more police respective intelligence than security, though?

You might have more luck, with megacorp security, such as Tukera's Vemene.

Very helpful, AnotherDilbert, thank you.

I'm sure there would be planetary marshal services.

The Imperium missed out on a good thing though. Any service that includes Tommy Lee Jones and Arnold Schwartzeneger has to be something special.

If you want ideas for career and skill groupings, both the Mongoose 1st Edition Agent Book and the Spica Publishing Career Book 1have Career choices that cover most or not all of this, although they arent geouped together in quite the manner you are envisioning.

Yes you have overlooked that the Third Imperium is not the USA in space.

On some worlds they may have a marshal service, but on most worlds they will not. Just like the real world where most countries do not have the US law enforcement system.

I think the Imperium manages.

Have you looked into Mongoose's "Agents" supplement for 1e? It does go into some detail of Imperial-level agents with law enforcement capabilities.
