Iain M Banks - "The Culture"

Hi,

Remember Iain M Banks' novels about "The Culture", a huge advanced culture? Novels like "Excession" or "The Player of Games"?

I'd be interested in either a RPG based on it or, perhaps, a Babytlon 5 "A Call To Arms" source book for it.

Ideas?

The RPG should be do-able; there's nothing impossible in other RPG systems.

Getting a good swathe of suggested campaigns would be the trick. You never know, you might manage to attract the bearded scottish one's interest...

As to background, there are enough odds and ends laid down in the storylines; if the players represent a contact (or special circumstances) working team, you've got everthing from the Idiran War, the Affront, the Homomdan (allies, but originally enemies), the random conspiracy types from Look to Windward, the various Sublimed like the Dra'Azon as well as all the smaller parties like Chel, the Changers, etc.

Doing a fleet game would be trickier (how to model all effectors, information warfare and the messing about in hyperspace?) but I think would be supremely rewarding.

As far as I remember 'Look to Windward' is not one of the Culture novels

In any case this would be extremely interesting setting and would allow almost any kind of game.

Hi,

If anyone was thinking of coming up with ship statistics, take a good look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_types_%28The_Culture%29
