With only day or so left to bid on this book.

'Slaine the Defiler'

I thought there would be fair chance of getting this for about ten dollars plus postage and handling.

Oh, well, I'll make that my last bid and see if it pops up on the listing somewhere else again.

I rember days when you could buy paperr back novels for about tne dollars retail. These days you pay twenty dollars or about ten dollars more.

I won it unfortunitly.

As a after thought, I don't think want to be payong that much for it.

Oh well, I was probably going to pay that much for it retail anyway.

I noticed the familar looking name and thats why posted the link up here.

Did you realy want that book, ToothillMan.

As right now I don't really want tbo be paying the twenty eight dollars for it.

Perhaps something can be worked out with the seller.

It's up to you of course.

Just say , yay or nay.

The book was delivered yesterday.

The the first paragraph is rather questionable..........

You now how some books have that certain thing that grabs you you from the first letter, word, sentence, paragraph, page, chapter and doesn't let you put the book down. Well lets just say that's not happening here.

But I can't get past he first page. So I hope it does pick up beyond what I have read. I am way two busy, too much stuff to do.

I guess you will just have to read it for your self.

After three weeks with thsi book, I still not quite even half way through.

Really too busy to read this non stop.

It really is not as good as the first, though it still does have it's moments.

It's all down to some intresting conceptsy good cooked up by the author mixed in with some really bad excecution of stuff that has been commonly known about Slaine and Celtic myth in general.

(SPOILER WARNING.)

The introduction of other realms or planes of existence such as 'Purgadair' seeemd so far detached from what I know to be the standad fair of Slaine in general.

Otherwise...........

Some interesting things have popped up...

Well, I know shouldn't give away too much of the book to people who have yet to read this. But there was another thread around discussing how Macha met here demise in the last book.

Death by Skull Swords

A event , the way it happend never really bothered me.

Due to the general weirdness of some of situations that Slaine amd Ukko now find themselves getting into.....

This scene is played out again, and this time it's alot more faithful to the comic as Slaine now witness's his mother being chased, run over and
trampled by a chariot/s.

The only other thing I think that is worth mentioning here is that the character Myrddin gets a supporting role in this story as well. His
last name turns out to be Emyrs. Which is appropiate I guess.
As this would be the place where he builds the Enternal Fortress. Not that I can see this happening in the story, yet.

After wondering about the meaning of the word Emrys.?

I now I have read this before on Wikipdeia.

'Fortress of Ambrosius'

So, I guess that means Ambrosius.

Sounds Greek to me, as I have heard that Ambrosia is greek for ' Food of the Gods '.

Very very interesting to me, this is.

.

Ambrosius Aurelius was a mythical post-Roman British king which scholars have tied into the Arthurian myths. Either as an ancestor of Arthur or even possibly the 'real', historical Arthur.

Myrddin was part of his family (brother, cousin, whatever), hence the common name (Ambrosius). Merlin was thus related to Uther, Arthur, Mordred, etc.

Bit late to go off and check on this (this all comes from memory), but have a look at wikipaedia or try using some google-fu and you should be able to find more detail than my occassionally decepit memory can provide.

I surprised myself by liking this book far more than the first as it shows the goddess as enemy and some ways of running a adventure in the el realms.also ukko is useful which makes a huge change and can see why slaine keeps him on.
