I need names for my Map...

Court Jester

Mongoose
Right...

So Our local gaming group has started a campaign and I have done tha map for it with all of our strategic targets marked out.

I now need a good variety of names for the planets and other bits and bobs... And I just know there is vast font on knowledge and creativity on the forums so...

If you would be so kind as to suggest some names I might use I would be very greatful.

thats a cool map - how did you make it

as to names hmm Wikipedia is always useful

Could always name the star and then the planets become say Asura Minor 1,2 3, . major 1 2,3 etc

nick em from fav scfi films/games - Nostromo, Klendathu, Arakis, Ceti Alpha, Thakard, Luthien, New Avalon,

Girls names are also fun

Gods and goddesses are often used

hope helps :)

I used Photoshop to build the entire thing.

The planets and asteroids were built by dredging Google searching for "large images only". Unlike professional graphic artists that would access to image libraries I have to paw through google looking fo images. Once I found the required pictures I blended them together and applied a variety of filters until I happened upon the required effects.

All the planets in the map are also visible close up in my scenery thread and even closer up if you download them.

The background is a hubble telescope picure I found online.

A scaled down selection of the miages I used are here... you can generally see what was used for what. The city is a satellite image of Karbul and there is the arctic circle, Brazil, Australia and a variety of other coastlines.

most of the other features were built entirely in photoshop using filters and colour controls to manipulate textures.

I have also found (much to my joy) that you can pretty much type any single word into google followed by "Photoshop" and you will find a tutorial on how to design it.

The official Hubble website is also a great resource, as all the space scenes are real ones. Also good for comets, planets and what-not.

What size are you making your map? I'm planning on A3, laminating it and then attaching the strategic locations by blue tac or something similar; that way if anyone rolls up Superior Strategic Position on the other duties table assuming it still exists in the 2ed.

The Hi-Res version of the map is A3 and updating it is very simple as I just open the photoshop file and tinker about with it. I think we will have a lovely printed out version and the updated maps throughout the campaign turns will be hoasted online for the players to look at.

I hadn't thought of going to the official hubble site...

Its a great sight. Just flick through the galleries and admire the wonders that exist within the universe, not to mention those wonders that we haven't yet come across. If you every feel down just look at the wonders of creation and it all goes away.

Not ENTIRELY true... Pluto was reclassified. We now have major planets and minor planets. We have 8 major planets (the 9 artists formely known as planets minus Pluto).

Im not sure how many other minor planets have been officially classified as such along with Pluto but both major and minor still come under the heading of 'planets' so technically we actually now have quite a few more than 9 ;)

Anyway next campaign I run will be set in the Lave system I think for nostalgia's sake. Probably a big fight for the booming computer export bussiness ;)

(if youre a long time computer gamer you should probably get what Im going on about, and if not, no amount of explanation will make it remotely amusing :P)
