if I wanted to read all lovecrafts mythos stories and that of his circle I would choose chaosium 8) everywere has papa tolkens books 8) but which novels whould be canon for conan as even a time line is a point of veiw and not gospel

A perfect time to ask this question because for the first time ever all Conan stories (finished and unfinished) are available unedited and in the order there were originally published in Weird Tales from Del-Rey Books. The three books in order of publication are now available where ever fine books are sold or on Amazon:

1.http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780345461513

2.http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780345461520

3.http://www.randomhouse.com/delrey/catalog/display.pperl?isbn=9780345461537

These books are the definitive Conan collection in a reasonable price range.

the collections do turn up from time to time but even the paperbacks are getting scarce .chaosium is famous in our world for the CoC roleplaying game but it has never made money or never much money it is its collections of lovecraft and others of his circle that pays the bills.
CoC was one of the greatest sales. Chaosium lost money because of the CCG's. They lost enormous amount when the market for this card games dropped suddenly (everything is explained on their site).

You should try the Penguin Omnibus but I don't know if all the stories are there.
I am lucky I can read some French because an editor there published 3 big books with all the stories, letters and essays (the whole stuff is nearing 4,000 pages), including some stories from the Mythos Cycle by Howard, Robert Bloch and others "friends".

Raven is right though, many authors aren't as good as Lovecraft (I am no fan of Lumley) but some of his correspondants bring their own view of the world and universe.

I just try to imagine if Lovecraft had tried to write some stories involving Conan. Now that would have been impressive, especially with his skills for depiction of geographic feature and monsters.

Hello All,

This thread has unfortunately degenerated into a partial flame war, despite the best efforts of other posters to keep it on track. As such, we're shutting it down. However, we will keep the comments posted so far, as many make excellent and worthy points. It would be a shame to lose them all. We have deleted the more contentious posts.

Thanks for your time,
