How about Mongoose release new fleet lists during this year

I would love the idea of pre paints. It makes the ease of fielding fleets for us lesser mortals who are not so great at painting. Also it takes time to paint your minis and some do not have the time to blitz the minis.

So what if pre paints get "fad" players into a game. It supports the game and some might actually keep with the game. I think the blinkered snobbery with some gamers with pre paints is stupid. This is a fun hobby and all levels of involvement should be encouraged.

There are plenty of games which use pre paints very well and they are definately not "Kids" games.

few years back? only card game I have ever actually played... well other than real card games like Poker :-)

More than a few now... I can remember playing it in College, so around 10 years ago.

The b5 ccg, my true love lol.

i believe it was first released in 1997? by precedence publishing, who are sadly now out of business.

IT is imho one of the best if not the best multiplayer ccg, where it correctly depicts and resembles the show. It takes approx 1.5hours to play a 4way game but is very worth it.

due to its out of print nature cards can be picked up for very cheap but it can be difficult to track some down now.

for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_5_Collectible_Card_Game

for those that liked it and live in the uk, there is always a tournament at gencon uk and at hangoverfromhell in coventry (a game convention held in oct/nov).

pm if your intersted or wanna discuss lol.

anyway back on topic, i much prefer prepaints and plastics! why you ask? because they are usually cheaper and ready to play "out of the box" nothing i hate more than spending £20 and not being able to play with my new game yet.
Metal figures are usually more detailed and professionally painted figures DO look better but i for one cant paint a wall never mind a 26mm figure.

For the short term this game needs counters however.

my tuppence.

I just want to say that, mine at least, is not snobbery, just different taste. I have no problems with kids games -hey, I play toy soldiers, I'm almost obsessed with them!
A while ago I bought some lazer tag that I never had a chance to use yet because all my friends are afraid people might see them... I have micromachines Star Wars spaceships to play Silent death and I spent a few euros on those too. I even bought some painted LoTR miniatures on ebay to start play the game asap. Still I prefer my Battlefleet Gothic miniatures or my new B5. I love my Uruks and my warmaster or ancient carthaginian armies. I like to paint and build model, it's part of the hobby. I can paint ok now, but I wouldn't have been any good if I had only bought pre painted.
I think that from a company point of wiev, pre painted lines risk to be only temporary trends, unless there is the collectible element in them. While the success of companies like GW or Battlefront with FOW is based on the effort they make to build a whole hobby or many hobbies: reading, painting, modelling, playing.
GW, big as it is, never ever really advertised its own products, not even the LoTR line, just to avoid these turning into a temporary trend. They want it to be a hobby and want it to estabilish that.

Personally, I don't like the collectible side of some prepainted games, although I can see that it is still exciting to open a new packet of miniatures to see what you got, in the end it is frustrating and leads you to spend a lot of money if you are very serious about building a collection or even an army, even if trades and ebay are usefull and fun too. Also I get very upset when I get my ultrarare character after hundred of Euros spent only to have its lightsaber that looks like a huge bent pink sausage...
I can see it's good money for companies, but I have decided to steer away from them. ...my only sin is that I really like stormtroopers

my 2eurocent

If they went the BE route this might work, but they'd have to produce parallel minis, metal and plastic.

I would want to continue painting my minis, simply because I enjoy painting them. Some ships provide challenges, some provide artistic opportunities. From what I've seen of plastic pre-paints, one could not get an overcoat of paint to stick really well.

A collectible minis game would be pointless. I want a fleet of a certain size and composition. If I'm going to spend several hundred dollars to do it, I may as well buy and paint lead!

Agreed. However, that axis & allies one (and others) appear pretty popular and we may get stuck with that being the status quo someday. From a purely financial standpoint, from what I understand collectible minis draw in more money than normal ones in a manner similar to the card games. Sucks for people who just want to play. I know, that's why I quit Magic the Gathering. I love the game, but I won't pay to keep up with whatever the latest fad release is.

Cheers, Gary

Can you imagine any of us at Attactix buying into a CMG?

Our group, no. There are quite a few there who would though, i.e. Dave, Colin, Brody, Tony, Brian, etc. After all, they already do... ;-)

Cheers, Gary
