We don't delay sending one book out for the sake of another - as soon as we get High Guard in, it will be off to you (if, of course, you ordered from us :)).

I can confirm that Mongoose does indeed send stuff immediately. I pr-ordered Mercenary and High Guard at the same time. I have Mercenary already and High Guard should be here soon.

You could push up the release of the PDF, that would make me happy....

While I don't plan to get any book in PDF (unless I can get the whole thing for free  ), I don't think I would complain pushing the CORRECTED PDF release up. That would mean that the people who do enjoy PDFs can have it sooner.

But Dang It, I Want My Hard Copy! :P

Yes please! I'd love to see the PDF release moved closer to the print release date as well. Is there any particular marketing reason it's delayed so long?

Increased sales of the physical product means increased sales for game stores. Mongoose's main business is paper, not PDF.

This doesn't wash with me. Do you really think PDF sales will impact on paper product sales significantly? I have my doubts. As for profit, the lower overheads and costs of PDF production mean Mongoose should be making MORE from each PDF sale.

As for the stores, well.. like I said, I don't believe PDF sales have that great an impact on store sales.

I will not be purchasing the print product, no matter what (for various reasons). I WILL purchase each PDF product as soon as I can get my mitts on it.

I'm not asking for simultaneous release, either. But waiting a month or more after paper release to buy the product I want is never pleasant.

Can I safely assume my bet has been won?

No, you can have a copy right now, if you want :)

Sophistry, msprange. Pay the man... 8)

Of course, if DL Skippy jinxes another book printing, we're coming for him with barrels blazing

It washes with LGS owners. LGS are trying to compete with Amazon and PDF. Best strategy I've seen from the major publishers is for LGSs to get products before either of them.

I tend to buy the PDFs as well. It cuts down on the cupboard space I need to feed my habit :)

Personally, I don't mind waiting a couple of months for the PDF release. What narks me is that the PDF release isn't necessarily a set time period after the paper release. I'd love a policy statement on this, say 3 months after the paper release then the PDF version will be out? Having a set date to look forward to would ease the pain, and still allow the game stores to get a head start.

TBH I think the Mongoosians actually do a good job of getting stuff out within reasonable time frames. Unfortunately stuff like HMRC wanting to look inside a box of HG on its way into the UK tends to delay things. The pdfs are normally out pretty pronto after the deadtree is released and I think the gap between book and pdf isn't the longest wait in the world....

Of course, the biggest factor is how fast Matt can row his little bow back across the Atlantic when it's laden down with books....

Hell I would be happy for Mongoose to actually send out the items when they stated that it will be done. Come on now, High Guard was suppose to be released in September. Now maybe November!!!! This tends to turn a person off of a product. I understand that they want to make it right the first time but this is a little problematic. Makes me think that maybe I should just go back to Classic Traveller.

Mongoose coordinates writers in several countries on at least 2 continents, prints on the other side of an ocean, has licenses for their biggest sellers and about a dozen different product lines. Considering all this, it's pretty amazing that they get stuff done as quickly as they do.

Compare that to several publishers that support 4E. Necromancer games announced 4 major products for this year alone. 0 have been published by Necromancer, 1 of them was published by an entirely different publishing company. Other companies wanted stuff out by early summer. Goodman Games was one of the FEW that delivered and they had to go around the main license to do so. And those early products were probably ordered short since Goodman had to end the discontinue products of that same line that used the OGL. (So not as many customers are going to get to see those early products.)

Comparatively speaking, Mongoose's problems are relatively small. A delay isn't as bad as vaporware or short selling.

I will be much happier with a delayed superior product than an on-time inferior one. If it takes an extra month or two (or more) to get it right, so be it.

While I really dislike (well, hate) to wait for a postponed product that I ur-
gently need for my setting, I also very much prefer a good and late pro-
duct to a bad and early one - the only thing I dislike even more than wai-
ting for a late product is waiting for the errata necessary to make a bad
product useable ...

Im not saying that Mongoose isn't good. They got me into Conan and I have stayed with it since it came out. It seems that they have no problem putting out Conan products within a relativly timely matter but just disappointed about HG. An it makes me think that maybe Traders & Gunboats might be pushed back. And most definatly, I imagine that Fighting ships will be pushed back.

My disappointment is that I really like the Traveller Core Rulebook! :) And I want more Traveller stuff!!

they just need to use the Montgomery Scott method
if they think it will take 6 month to do
tell them a year
that way if they get it out early they are miracle workers
simple

The only potential delays on these two books will be from art. Traders & Gunboats has been edited, prepped and laid out for a couple of weeks now, but is still waiting the last of the art (should come in today!).

This has also been the problem with the recent Paranoia books. Unfortjnately, we use freelance artists rather than in-house, and so cannot use the standard whips and electrodes to enhance performance :)

As long as the book is well proofread and edited at this stage (I do understand that one or two minor mistakes can slip in no matter how many times someone proofreads something), I'm happy. Especially considering that this last delay was due to a printing error apparently. That tells me we will get the book as soon as a fresh batch is printed. I can handle that.
