High Guard News

they just need to use the Montgomery Scott method
if they think it will take 6 month to do
tell them a year
that way if they get it out early they are miracle workers

Problem with that is for catelogs. Companies have to tell the catelog companies that LGSs use to order products when their products will be out several months in advance. Delays are not infrequent and LGSs know to expect some from time to time. If mongoose has 6 months worth of products just sitting around waiting for the date, then they require a larger warehouse to hold all that product (which costs more money).

Hell I would be happy for Mongoose to actually send out the items when they stated that it will be done. Come on now, High Guard was suppose to be released in September. Now maybe November!!!! This tends to turn a person off of a product. I understand that they want to make it right the first time but this is a little problematic. Makes me think that maybe I should just go back to Classic Traveller.

This was my point from the beginning. So far most of these books have started in one month and at the end of that month moved to the next month.

So far, I think Mongoose has put out an excellent product, but someone needs to rethink the schedule. If you cant meet the schedule, dont put it out there. If it honestly takes 5 months to do a great Traveller book, dont say you'll have it done in 2 months (and then push back every month until its 5). Its not just irritating, its bad marketing... and it looks and feels very unprofessional.

I dont think Mongoose is unprofessional, but that perception is certainly there for me now. Please guys, make a schedule you can honestly keep. Hell, if nothing else, pad it a few months and then the perception can come along that you *BEAT* the schedule. Much better for you.

For instance, one would assume that since Fighting Ships is listed for December, it would be safe to recommend this to my wife as a gift idea. Should I?

Should we honestly expect "Scout" to arrive in December? or should we simply assume that December is Mongoose-speak for March?

The mythical T5!!!! Now that would be a miracle. One reason why I went with Mongoose. Good thing that I did not hold my breath on that one. And that also brings me into reality with Mongoose. Might be late but at least its not mythical.

The GDW release schedule (a significant book a quarter) was fine by me then, and still is now, provided the book is worth the wait.

Well, if you get one of those misprinted tomes, KEEP IT. misprints can be worth money to collectors later on...

Yeah, but this is Traveller. In 20 years people with the misprint version will treat it like "the version they should have kept" and quote from it like a few folks we know do from CT HG 1e.

To turn the discussion back to a civil tone on the surveyor.

Whats the thing on the front? A headlight? I noticed there's no ships locker. I guess the crew stashes stuff under their bunks?

Line up the floor/ceiling hatches and the Surveyor is quite the odd little boat. The art makes the rear look like a half-egg, but the deckplan accounts for nearly all of the design volume, so either we aren't seeing a flat underside or we'll need to invoke the 20% rule. Seems silly to do so for such a small boat, though.

The "Survey Rider" built around a Type R and carrying four of these would be amusing.

Guys this is Traveller, release dates are an illusion.

Just be happy anything is being released. T5 any one?

Simply beacuse bad things have been the norm, does not mean that they should be the bar of comparison.

Where does good or bad come into it? The norm is things get delayed.

I was able to get my hands on it today!!! I am now going to start my campaign!!

I thumbed through it once and I like the character options so far, with the addition of the "legendary" career options.

The Sylea Class Battleship looks interesting and love the addition of the floor plans!

There are a few other capital ships including a "light" carrier, I am very happy so far!!

Thanks guys!
