High Guard is Here!

Still holding out hope that with all these changes, and the future ones, we might get a small annotation somewhere that displays a change version number or date, something to let us know that the copy we are using is the latest one... I've got a couple copies between my wacom tablet, and my desktop pc at home... might have to delete them and redownload them everywhere to make sure I have the latest. Heading home now to check out the new update.

Cheers!

I have now tried two computers and two different browsers (Chrome and IE). Both give me the "can't download unless you are logged in " error regardless of the fact I am logged in. :(

Tried clearing cache, logging out and back in, restarting computers nothing worked. Once I get home I will try that computer as well.

Finally got it to download here. Hopefully yours will work as well when you get home.

Same here. Guess the site didn't like my works firewall or something. Worked just fine here at home. Now off to do some reading as Dinner is over.

Wasn't the problem here, got it eventually on the same computer, same browser... Not to mention going through the same firewall on my server.

But that's good then, guess whatever it was cleared up.

Amen. The bottom line is now I have the file. <insert evil laugh>

Yeah, that kind of bugs me. Weapons - no matter what the mounting - should take up some displacement. With a turret weapon, you're paying for the turret and the weapons mount inside it. It feel like I'm getting something for free.
I had that discussion during beta. Get used to it.

Also, a fixed mount can only fire in one direction - does that also count for missiles/torps, or can the missiles/torps be fired in any direction and they will maneuver towards the target? Does being fired from a fixed mount affect the range of the missiles/torps?
The only limitations in the rules are in dogfight and no point defence from fixed mounts.

I'm ok with firing missiles in any direction, the missiles are capable of astounding acceleration so it does not really matter much in which direction you launch them. There's even a scene in the Expanse showing that.

The rules state this about Firmpoints:
A weapon mounted upon a Firmpoint has the following
changes applied to it.
• Weapons of Medium range or less are reduced to
Adjacent range.
• Weapons of greater range are reduced to Close range.
• A weapon on a Firmpoint may not have its range
increased beyond Close by any means.

A clarification as to whether 'weapon' applies to missiles or torps would be very nice.

Weapons are found in the Turret Weapons table on p26. A Missile Rack is a weapon in this context, the missiles are munitions.

I have always assumed that even fighters can launch missiles at long ranges.

Agreed, but HG does not make a difference between the two. Looking at this ruleset through the eyes of someone who has never played Traveller, conflating the two is easy.

When writing a ruleset, never assume your player knows anything. I believe a clarification (one line - "Firmpoint weapon range limitiations do not apply to Missiles or Torpedoes") is needed.

During the progress of High Guard I did ask for a number of clarifications on firmpoints to make things clearer, alas that never got into the book.

Geez Andrew, what are we paying you for???

SDB: 12 weeks fuel is 16 / 10 × 12 / 4 = 4,8 dT.

The way power plant fuel is calculated, 10% rounded up per four weeks. So we have:

Size of power plant = 16
10% = 1.6
Rounded up = 2 per four weeks.
So 6 for 12 weeks of operation.

AnotherDilbert said:
I read it as "round up if less than a dT" which it clearly doesn't say.

Thanks.

The minimum isn't even really needed, as if you round up your going to end up with at least 1 dton anyways.

But did have a conversation about this already to see which way Mathew wanted the rule to go, was worded differently then.

No problem.

That begs the question: Why do we round up at all? Since we have a minimum size of hulls, it's no longer needed to limit tiny small craft, which I assume was the original purpose?
