Hardcovers, softcovers, and revisions?

Hiya,

I was just wondering if anyone knew the publishing history for the Paranoia (XP) books. I'd like to start building a collection, and would prefer to pick up hardback editions whenever possible, but I see that some of the books are now listed as being softcover on the main site when I've seen hardcover versions here and there before.

As far as I'm aware (and please correct me if I'm in error) the main rulebook had three incarnations. Initial hardcover, SP1 hardcover, and SP1 softcover (current version). Were there any revisions between the SP1 editions, or was it just the binding?

And what about the GM screen? I seem to recall seeing one that had "XP" prominently displayed across the front. Is the current version significantly different? Did the artwork change, or were the tables revised for SP1?

Thanks a bunch for any help and info. :)

If you're interested in hardcovers, the only hardcovers in the PARANOIA line other than the basic rulebook are Flashbacks 1 and 2, Alpha Complex Nights, and STUFF 2.

You're correct that the Mongoose PARANOIA rulebook has been through three printings to date. The second and third printings are designated "Service Pack 1." I believe there was one change between the second and third printings, a restoration of about six lines of text at the end of a chapter that I mistakenly deleted while preparing the second printing. (Oops.) Sorry, I don't have the rulebook to hand and don't recall which page was corrected for the third printing, but undoubtedly some kind citizen will rush to my aid.

I wasn't personally involved with the GM Screen after the first printing, but to my knowledge, there was no change in the screen or its insert booklet other than the removal of the "XP."

i don't know if the current Paranoia main book is softcover or not, but there were 3 different hardcovers

1) Paranoia XP hardcover
2) Paranoia XP Service Pack 1 Hardcover (Includes erratta downloadable from website for owners of the first book)
3) Paranoia Service PAck 1 HArdcover (Identical to #2 above but with XP removed)

If there is now a softcover version of #3 then there are 4 Paranoia main book versions.

I own #1 above, I have seen #2 and #3 in 'the wild', never seen a softcover version yet.

I have #1 and the latest to hit the shelves. The latest, I guess, is a 4th edition because it doesn't say anything about service pack 1 anywhere on the cover. It just says PARANOIA, with the typical picture of the smoking shoes and horrified troubleshooters. It's brand new though, paperback, so it's the latest and greatest. Not sure the differences from #2 and #3 because I haven't read them.
