Gorn colour schemes?

Right, I've got grey Romulans, white Feds and green Klingons.

I don't want to have a bunch of fleets in a variety of shades of grey (not when VAS is coming up and I'll be painting all those ships) but I'm wondering what colour to paint my Gorn fleet box.

Any suggestions for a non-grey scheme? Anyone painted their Gorn yet?

Looking at those I like the British Metallic Green ones. I imagine you could highlight them by adding a little silver to the paint and shade with standard green ink (you might even basecoat, wash and then use the basecoat as the highlight).

I'm a little dubious about using metallics for ships, I've seen some silvered ships before and they looked a bit crap. However the BMG isn't so showy as to have the same issue.

I was thinking red, going from a dark red basecoat up to a medium red, but I'm torn as to the colour of the detail.

I'm now thinking seriously about a dark metallic green. If I do the detail panels in red then, as a complementary colour, it will brighten the darker green.

One thing I need to sort out is taking photos of things. I'm off to town shortly to take my daughter to the Christmas market, so I'll pick up some BMC if it's stocked in the hobby shop while I'm there.

Not that you are probably aware of this, but be careful with any combination of green and red, those are great complementary color, but it's way to easy to end up with a X-mas fleet or army. Just thought I would mention it. Purple and yellow/gold goes fantastic together, as usually does orange and blue. personally I might be tempted to go with a burned orange with a dark green might just look good you know. If all else fails you can look various reptile and see what nature did, it might just give you some idea.

Well I couldn't find a dark metallic green paint but I did find a Tamiya dark metallic spray.

I'm going to do a test mini and see how it goes.

Real life seems to be constantly delaying my fleet building projects but after a bit of test painting I've settled on these for my ships:

• Federation - White (actually a very light grey to allow for highlighting)
• Romulan - Light Grey (but darker than the Feds)
• Klingons - Medium Blue-Grey (the color as I remember from TOS).
• Kzinti - Brick Red (not sure if I'm going with the tiger strips or not)
• Gorn - Dark Grey (based on the original ADB color scheme for them)

There is certainly a lot of "grey" in there, but I think there is enough variation to keep the fleets distinct from each other.

I plan to go with GW Boltgun Metal-ish color and then drybrush with a dark grey color, then add deets.

I think the new GW equivalent color is "Leadbelcher"; it's what I used on my Klingon D5 series ships.

I think something a little darker would be nice, but haven't found anything commercially made that's a couple shades darker. I may end up trying Leadbelcher with a very thin dark wash on it and see how that looks.
