Gen Con 2008: Traveller Events...

Flynn

Mongoose
Good Morning, All:

I have submitted the following three Traveller scenarios for Gen Con Indianapolis 2008. This year's Traveller events are being sponsored by Mongoose Publishing, and will be run under the new Traveller OGL rules. Please feel free to pre-register for these events when event registration opens up in May. Be warned, however, that available seats fill up fast, and I have no way of saving seats for anyone.

Traveller OGL: Return of the Chamax
Synopsis: In this homage to a Traveller Classic, a ship bearing the dreaded Chamax crashes on the surface of an inhabited planet, putting the population in peril unless something is done to remove this alien infestation. Characters provided. A Mongoose Publishing supported event.
Requested Schedule: Thursday, 08/14/2008, 2pm to 6pm

Traveller OGL: Dr. Smith and the Ine Givar
Synopsis: Dr. Eneri Smith is missing, and the Imperial Ministry of Justice suspects the involvement of Ine Givar terrorists. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to locate the terrorist encampment and extricate the scientist to safety. As usual, should you fail, the Imperial government will deny all knowledge of your actions. Characters provided. A Mongoose Publishing supported event.
Requested Schedule: Thursday, 08/14/2008, 7pm to 11pm

Traveller OGL: Casino Imperial
Synopsis: Top secret data revealing many of the Imperial Ministry of Justice's covert operatives and their activities has been stolen. The IMoJ has learned that the data will be auctioned off at the Casino Imperial. Your team has been assigned to recover the stolen data and, if possible, substitute false data that will misdirect the enemies of the Iridium Throne. Characters provided. A Mongoose Publishing supported event.
Requested Schedule: Friday, 08/15/2008, 7pm to 11pm

All of these scenarios will take place in the Spinward Marches during the Classic Era, circa 1105.

Looking Forward To It,
Flynn

It seems entirely plausible that some members of the Avenger Enterprises staff will be at Gencon UK this year. If so, there will probably be a Traveller game of some kind.

That's about the limit of our forward planning I'm afraid.

They look like fun adventures Flynn and I'm sad I won't be able to make any. Since WotC will be paying for my admission (booth slave) I won't have badge information until I hit the hotel on that Wed and will miss out on all the pre-registraition possibilities.

Good luck, I'm looking forward to reading how everything went.

I will say that I have high hopes that others will be running Traveller at this year's Gen Con, if for no other reason than the fact that the new version will be out and Mongoose will have other people besides myself running Traveller games.

I've pretty much been "that guy that runs the only Traveller games at Gen Con" since 2003, IIRC, and I have yet to inspire others to join me on this side of the screen, despite high attendance at my gaming sessions each year.

Then again, maybe I can take that as a compliment to my Refereeing abilities. Hmmm...

;)

See You Guys There,
Flynn

OMG ......... A Chamax Plague Ship

People are so going to die

Totally hear ya... Chamax are a scourge. An insatiable, mindless scourge. Lots of teeth. Did I mention they're insatiable?

I'm going to try to make one.

I'm looking for some Mongoose Traveller to try. I did a demo with Rune Quest last time I was there and it was bad. The GM didn't even know the rules. In his defense, the scheduled guy never showed and he was pressed into service.

I will be at both Gencon Indy and UK this year so will be getting a Traveller fix if I can, maybe get a private room at UK this year (kinder on the other gamers around us :) )

At Gencon last year, there was a huge snafu with printed tickets many of them had the wrong rooms on them. I ran a Conan event where every ticket that was given to me had a different location listed on it. If your Runequest event was run by folks from Mongoose, that is likely why the Gm was not there.

I ran B5 and SST at Gencon last year and I may have been the first victim of this snafu. I was sitting at the table listed in the book and had 0 players at start time. about 5 minutes in a guy walks up, looks at my screen and says, "are you running Babylon 5 for Mongoose?" I said yes, he said, "There's a whole table of people in the room on the tickets waiting for you. He ran and got them and we had a blast. Including the couple of people that Alex said I could squeeze in. :)

This year I hope to run RuneQuest or Pirates. Still trying to get people to show up for a demo so *I* can learn the rules. Reading a book is a lot different than running a game. If all else fails I can run B5 or Paranoia.

My first Gencon there was a booking issue and we were scheduled for 6 tables of 6 players. We only had 1 GM! I learned Paranoia that night and we got the schedule changed to two tables of 6. We had 12 people registered. Paranoia like RQ and Traveller is NOT a game to learn overnight. :)

I may try to relearn Traveller also. I've got books going back to MegaTraveller but haven't had a group interested in playing longer than a one-shot. Darn D&D group. :)

Flynn save a seat for me. I'll be ther this year again. Hopefully for all three events. It was fun jumping into last years GENCON game. We all died. Some died in a miss jump and others (me and an NPC) burned up in reentry, nice way to go. Damn combat drugs. If you need some artwork let me know.

Also, shameless plug here, I'm a freelance artist who like very much to do artwork for people.

I, too, will attempt to be there again this year. I've been there for several of Flynn's games and have enjoyed each and every one of them.

I have to say that being one of the casualties of the above game was far more enjoyable than one might think. The sheer comedy of errors that caused our deaths was hilarious.

Wasn't there a problem with getting the grav vehicle started so that we could get off the ship before mis-jumping? If it wasn't for the combat drugs I would have been a long for the ride. I hope it is as much fun this year.

That would be it exactly. I would be the guy who crashed the grav vehicle trying to get it out of the bay while the ship was lurching.

LOL.

Good Morning, All:

If things have gone as usual, the seats for the three Traveller games should be filled by now. I have always had a blast running Traveller at Gen Con, and so I am definitely looking forward to doing so again under the new Traveller rules this year. Yay!

Yes, that last adventure last year definitely did not go as planned, and I had to wing it. You guys were great! I don't think I've ever had that much fun with a failed boarding attempt in all of my Traveller gaming experience!

Looking Forward To Future Fun,
Flynn
