Gaming table

I have a 5'X11' gaming table in my basement and am wanting to paint it in space motif. I can get a gallon of paint from the hardware store that is a very dark grey but what I was wondering is how to get the white speckles to represent the stars and how maybe to paint the colored clouds on the surface of the table? I was curious if anybody had painted a table or gaming surface in deep space? Thanks in advace.

well it might take a long time but speckle it with a tooth brush, dip bristles in paint, point at board, run your thumb back across bristles to get the effect

or theres light sprays of white spray paint.

I've found tooth brushes might apply more of a mist than "stars". On large tables I like the fairly large sized drops. I use either a finger flick (finger dipped in paint then quickly flicked onto your surface). This has a tendency to deposit in a line pattern though so care has to be taken to avoid that.

I also use an air compressor to blow, with some force, white paint from a small paint brush onto the surface. Short bursts work best. Play around with the distance until you find one that works for you. Too close you get too much of a burst and too far and you don't get much of anything.

Hope that helps a bit.
