Future of Dredd RPG...

I'm busily buying second hand copies of D20 products for Judge Dredd.

Is there any point? Will Judge Dredd be getting a face lift (so to speak) with another system - such as others have suggested on these Forums?

I'd love to see more for Judge Dredd. It would make sense for other 2000AD titles to be compatable so that cross overs - if wanted - are easier.

So, do I continue getting Judge Dredd D20 books on e-bay or do I wait for a Traveller version?

I own all of the d20 stuff now, and some of it is oustanding (core book, Atlantis and Black Atlantic, Block Wars, Justice department, Psi) others are average to poor (Brit-Cit fluff is great, and some of the rules pretty good, some poor depending on your interpretation of the Brit-Cit justice department. Crazes is missable IMO).

Go ahead and get the stuff I would say - if/when they do a Traveller version it could be a long time away. I am enjoying the D20 stuff for now and will buy whatever comes out in the future too.

We cover new Dredd games in 'State of the Mongoose'. They are indeed some time away, but we are already very excited about them!

Great posts Msprange... very informative. I look foward to Traveler Dredd, but reinforce my suggestion to the OP that he not wait for them - go ahead and devour the d20 Dredd goodness!

Ive been enjoying the entire D20 Dredd line. I have nearly all the titles. While I must admit Im not a fan of D&D D20, it works well enough for Dredd.
Im always looking forward to new Dredd products.

Just for clarity: Not a facelift, but a conversion to a different engine.

It's been announced in several places that Judge Dredd will migrate to the same engine as Mongoose Traveller.

Me, I've got the d20 version core, but WILL NOT PLAY IT. It's an excellent reference on the Dredd setting, but the d20 system turns off my players, period.

Since I have the old GW system, that's what I run Dredd under when I run Dredd.

I have an entire campaign I have written up and used many times since the GW game came out 22+ years ago. I plan to update it for TravDredd and hopefully get it out there as a campaign book, time willing.

Thanks for the response Matt.

Yeah, I might just continue anyway as Judge Morgan suggests. I'll get the new version when it comes as well. Stronium Dog is also something I want to try out and cross-overs might be quite cool (though current events in 2000AD make the Mutant/Judge cross-over less explosive in a way).

I recall someone mentioning on here that work on Dredd would continue when the new movies were out.

Given that the likelihood of the proposed new movies every getting the green light are around zero, I'm not holding my breath for any Dredd related RPG goodness being released. I'm also not sure if Dredd has ever been profitable for Mongoose, no matter how good it is as an RPG setting. I assume this because of some foggy memory of talk on these forums of very low sales for some of the Rookies Guides back when they were still being released. You can hardly blame a company for not supporting a non-profitable product.

It seens a shame but then Dredd Role Playing is my favourite passtime and nothing else gaming wise holds a candle to it for me. However, I have absolutely no inside knowledge so whether the game is dead in the water or there are big plans for it underway I have no idea.

Hi guys,

Unless something truly tragic happens, you can be pretty sure a new Dredd RPG will be appearing. It is true that we are waiting to see what happens with any new movies, but we will not be tied to that, and if it begins looking as if they could be a long time in coming, the RPG will be bumped up the schedule.

One thing we are playing with. . . imagine using the Traveller character creation system to play through your judge's 15 years of training. . .

That's what appeals to me, actually... and the traveller chargen would also be a joy for citizen life-colour... could have some real fun with eldsters...

Ned

I'm looking forward to this, the Traveller system is easy to use and easy to modify.
Kudo's Mongoose, Dredd deserves a better system.
