Free Drakh Mothership!

I guess, I suppose I don't consider many of the fighters carried worth their points if bought seperately.
That said it's a valid point I guess the free big ship thing is more noticeable with Drakh than other carriers.
Of course my tendancy to play Narn and Brakiri might influence this as emines lower my respect for fighters a little and although I love it dearly, the brokados isn't the most fearsome carrier in terms of flights carried, (although that might have changed in 2ed).

Never seemed like a good idea to me as it makes choosing a carrier or a mothership a total no brainer.
After all why would you want to field the lower level ships loose when you could get them with the extra big free ship for the same points. I never understood why the huge hanger ships always contained their value in smaller ships rather than just slightly less as it is just too big a bonus for no real drawback, other than the slight risk that you can't scramble, scramble them out before your large well Geg's and probaly skulking fee ship is destroyed.
I've found several times that fielding the Carrier or Mothership was a problem rather then a boon. Particularly since the Heavy Raiders seem to operate best with in Squadrons that allow them to make use of their beamy goodness before being destroyed, individually you have to be far more patient and spend more time staying out of arcs rather then making attacks, picking and chosing your surgical strikes. By bringing them in a Carrier I'm delaying my ability to make attacks and preventing any kind of squadron usage.

I suppose it depends entirely on if you enjoy slow playing your opponent rather then zurging them.

Why cant you squadron raiders? You can launch more then one at a time. If you want, say, 3 of them to be in a squadron, just launch those 3 together and run them as a squad. It says ships have to start the game in a squad, it didnt say they have to start on the table though.

I believe it was ruled at one point that those flights coming off of carriers wouldn't be squadron-able. But thats my carry over from 1e assuming it remains so in 2e.

How do the Mothership or Carrier work if you send it home to get a fresh compliment of crafts ?

Not sure but is it possible in a campaign ( under 2e rules ) to "shift" the attached fighters from the ship to your fleet list ?
Or send the fighters to the battle without sending the ship and only using the FAP needed for the fighters and not the carrier ( e.g. just send ships worth 5 Raid pts and not the complete carrier ) ?

Thanks

yes you can send fighters from a carrier so this would also work for drakh. send your free ships along to a battle by themselves. then if they all die just send your carrier back to HQ for more.

Has this specifically changed for 2nd ed then? I seem to recall a direct ruling Matt gave a while back that you COULDNT field a crafts compliment independantly from the parent ship (for fighters or drakh). Otherwise whats to stop you moving the fighters out of a ship to your fleet list, then sending the ship home for repairs, thus refilling it and basically getting you infiinte free fighters.....

I thought all the above campaign rules only applied to ships with the Carrier trait, not those with Huge Hangars.

I'm afb so I can't check right now

That's exactly what my first thought was regarding this option ... let's see if it has changed or not  It would be a real boost for a Drakh campaign fleet.

There is a rule that a carrier can send its flights to participate in a battle (page 99). The flights are organised into wings and are paid for out of the FAPs for the battle. The flights are returned to the carrier at the end of the battle - so no sending the carrier to get free flights when you didn't actually lose any!

No mention of the Drakh using raiders though.
