Free Companies & Pirates Isles

I have been looking for some info on the masscombat systems for armys and ships in Free Companies & Pirates Isles, but found nothing about the actual systems of the books. Are they fun or fast to use? Are they just pointless systems of orgys in boring meaningless detail? Do they bring any new thrills to the gamingtable in practise? I´ve read some reviews but they did not make me any wiser on the subjects so I wonder if someone could fill me in?

They're the opposite of counters and movement points and modifiers for terrain. Instead, they're easy flow, narrator friendly system with light dicing to quantify results.

They don't even use a specific combat round. The GM rolls when he deems it dramatically appropriate based on how he envisions the battle to be.

They are one step this side of the GM just narrating the entire fight. Instead of the GM just deciding who wins, the dicing adds a little suspense. But, the GM can still easily influence combats by chosing how to implement the rules.

I like these light rule systems, but they may not be for everybody.

There's a set of Conan rpg mass combat rules here too, (different from the one in Free Companies):
