Force Organization

Some time ago, there was a thread (I can't find it now) that layed out force organization parameters. They were:

•2 Squads for minimum legal platoon.
•1 Command option per platoon
•1 Armour option per 2 squads
•1 Transport option per squad
•1 Support option per squad (ie snipers)
•1 Aircraft per 1500 points

But I'm noticing that in most of the threads (and the battle reports) that this is not being adhered to. Are these parameters wrong or no longer valid?

They seem like good rules, and are the ones that we play with in our LGS. Our games seem pretty balanced, and no one faction seems to have the advantage (although we aren't playing with the MEA right now).

Possibly going back to these parameters might help with some of the problems others are finding with problems of lopsidedness (is that a word?) in their games.

Actually it's more of case these have yet to BECOME official :D Those are tidbits we have got from platoon lists from advanced rulebook that is yet to come

Most people are probably ignoring those because nobody outside Mongoose or playtesters HAVE full platoon rules at the moment :D

There will be army force charts like the one you listed above, but the basic game is supposed to work right out of the box with little to no thinking required :)

Therefore, it is made so that you can play the basic game with ANY combination that you wish. Sure there will be a lopsided game or two, but in general, the games will be winnable for either side.

That being said, the advanced rulebook will have army lists for every army (and they likely won't be the same), so anything written right now might just confuse the game further (by having a general force chart plus a newer chart for each list).

I know Matt will probably disagree with me, but the basic rule set was not made for 100% balanced tournament style games, but rather a good way to try out the game and get the flow of the game. Yes, there was an attempt to balance any army configuration, but that just isn't feasible. You just will never be able to 100% balance a tank vs a rifle... it just won't work.

The army lists will work this out though, just be patient.

Oh, no need to be patient. We are playing with the force composition chart, and it is working nicely. It was just a suggestion for those who feel that parts of the game are unbalanced right now. It is a simple answer to a simple problem! :D

Be wary of using that chart though and thinking it is perfect... 2 squads per armor for one army isn't the same as another. You can get a lot more PLA tanks than USMC tanks.

I guess it helps, but don't think the game is meant to be perfectly balanced based on that chart either!

Sure. I do understand what you're saying (and agree). It just makes for an easy starting point. Personally, I wish my opponents would ignore those restrictions completely and bring only tanks!

Right now we play with what we've got. I've used my PLA at 890 points (two tanks and a squad) against the USMC at 1025 points (two tanks and a squad) becuase that's all we had. Depending on the next shipments that will change I'm sure. But force orgs won't be followed until the rulebook is in and only if there is on in there.

That still won't stop a "tank throwdown" every so often if the force org isn't accomodating for all tank forces.

I think I posted that. I've always played with the force organisation chart because I did playtesting and I automatically applied it to the various mods I worked on.
However you are entirely free to ignore it, particularly in smaller battles, but it becomes a good idea to use when you hit about 2000-4000 points. 4000 points (in the Star Wars mod) is an impressive amount of models but the game was still done in three hours.

As the owner of 400+ Stormtroopers and 200+ Rebel troopers (+ hundreds more "aliens" I can add to that as freedom fighters) and 5 AT-ATs, I think I need to look into finding that Star Wars mod.

An AT-AT walker in Evo.... now there is a nasty idea.

Attacked by 9 snowspeeders (or "speeders" as I use them in any setting) so I already have air support. Once the advanced rulebook is out for BF:E I will hopefully be able to adapt it to my "Battle of Hoth" game in 1:1 scale.

i gots 7 AT-ATs :D care for a few more, i need to get rid of some, all are NIB

my advise to any one is dont get more than 4 boxes of infantry for your faction.

i say this as a blanket statment, 6 is fine for MEA and pla but going by the brits 4 boxes gives you a platoon to a extent.

usmc can exspand their platoon size so can go a bit bigger.

alternativly ignor my mad ramblings :D

Agreed. I'm holding at 2 per army until the advanced rules release. I'm not in a hurry to have dust collectors I have to resell to use.

Also note that because there are no force limits in the basic game, it relies more on the Shatter rules to end games and keep things balanced.

With the full rulebook, there are limits placed on what you can take so I suspect the shatter rules are used less.

My main force is Brits, 4 Infantry squads, 2 Challenger MBTs, 1 Warrior and a command squad.

I'll maybe buy another Warrior but definitely some SAS boys.
