To say or deny that there aren’t examples of differing fleet compositions within the show is quite ludicrous; for every G’Quan fleet we see, there is also a complete opposite; the Lexington battle group, the Prometheus battle group; Sheridan’s multi-racial forces (Drazi ships running interference for the fighter carriers and capital ships). The defence of Earth (both times), Drakh forces operate in support of each other; the Emperor’s task force (one capital ship and the rest are escorts).
The ships within the show operate independently, in unison with each other and as part of a larger more diverse strike group.
Personally, multi-role mainline combat vessels (Omega, Primus, G’Quan et cetera) should never be allowed to be restricted in their deployment, an all Omega fleet should be equally as valid as mixed fleet of top heavy combatants (heavy cruisers, advanced destroyers, dreadnoughts et cetera); but, there still should be a benefit of taking an escort of smaller, less capable vessels compared to say an extra heavy cruiser or two (which would have its own benefits).
Specialised vessels that are powerful fleet support units just need a percentage number applied to their ship sheet; one missile cruiser to two heavy cruisers (or whatever).
There is still diversity with this; people just won’t take ten freaking bombardment cruisers as their fleet.
