Fleet Landing Party, Redux

Nice, be interested to know how they actually perform mind. I remember glossing over them in the rule book because of the carbines and then that was that. Speaking of gloss, don't be too quick to matt them out- there the landing party and i'm sure there nice shiney armour would earn them nice comments from the Cap troopers.

"What's that glare from Lt?"

"That, Sgt is a fleet landing party with their no claims bonus in tact. Note the pretty bright blue paint job so they don't get confused with real soldiers" Tee hee :)

Ah, the interservice hazing begins. Now, this game is starting to look closer to reality.

As to the scale difference, there isn't any. That's my story and I'm sticking to it . What I'm saying is that the power armor is logically a bulkier fit, including even their boot-sies. They should appear as taller and thicker than someone not wearing PA. Power armor is the main difference in the better stats of the Cap troopers over the FLPs as well. The FLP carbine has only 3/4 of the range of the assault rifle but the better CC of parry and piercing/1 is good if overrun. This is likely to happen of course, due to the lack of any Jump trait.

Value-wise, for every four Cap troopers you can buy five FLP units. You would need the extra bodies, as these troops have to stand and fight their ground in CC, where the Caps could just Jump out of trouble. This gives an opportunity for a bit of hazing aimed back at the MI, such as "Why don't you take off that fancy Jump gear and pick up a shock stick? That way you can get a closer view of the enemy, like we do?"

The Cap's retort would no doubt be "Why? We're smarter than that, of course."

Of course the Marine units get both, Jump gear with their power armor and a compact shock stick affectionately called "very short light sabers" by those that have seen old movies from Earth archives.

Thus, a Marine squad is just a Cap unit (25 points) that buys an FLP shock stick (5 points). They can use Morita assault rifles and jump with the best of the MI. After all, they just might have been graduates of Camp Currie but were siphoned off for "special duty", not unlike the Pathfinder troops and K-9 units.

Of course, that doesn't stop the MI refering to the Marines as "Babysitters of the Fleet", referring to their ship duties when not on missions.

Oh, I really like that . . . .

BUT I STILL THINK Zander/Xander is SKUM!

I concur, wholeheartedly! Every outfit has their "village idiots".

A bit more suggested hazing (this is fun!) returned from the FLP Ensigns-

"Well, at least when we lose our leader, we don't stand around with our fingers up our noses or other like orifices and wait to be told what to do. We are all trained leaders and move on with our mission."

To prevent this hazing as an MI player, make sure that you buy a corporal for your squad!

I can just imagine a cap troopers going up to a fleet landing party shinyboy and keying his armour like a car door.

Maybe you forgot that the FLP have "Cap-prods", perhaps?
Besides, all FLP are officers. Second mistake.

Those that tried it under the rank of Lt. only woke up from being stunned to find that they were then strung from one of these...

They'd have to catch me first . . . . .

It would indeed be a good test of dexterity. The smart trooper would do well to at least bring a shock stick of his own to even things out, and maybe even the balance of his squad as well. It wouldn't do well to return after a try at this and have "kick me" scratched onto your own butt plate.
