Finally saw the figs

i sprayed dull coat on my tanks last night, gets rid of the shiny look, tht said i sparayed on to much and forgot to turn heating on last night so some frosted up a little,,stupid me.

:? did that with some 10mm russians when I started playing Blitzkrieg Commander.... I was less than impressed but it was my own fault.

The shineyness hasn't put me off I must admit I'm buying into this rather big!

You can frequently 'fix' that clearcoat frost problem by just respraying. The surface has just dried too rough and light catches at REALLY odd angles making it look frosted. Another coat or two (best with an airbrush but a warmed spraycan works too) will often bring it back.

If it's really pesky and kind of crumbly on the surface you may need to coat really thickly so that the surface of the old stuff sort of re-liquifies a little.

A good friend of mine used to have that problem all the time leaving his minis on the porch to dry and forgetting them overnight. He's solved it many times since using the above methods. Occasionally the clearcoat will look really thick but it's still better than a white frost blanking out hours of work on a character figure!

Saw them today for the first time and am very underwhelmed overall. The pricing is horrendous. Half of the guns are bent, the painting is very hit or miss... just bad.

And i realize that it would cost more for prepainted... thing is, I didn't ask them to prepaint them for me. In fact, thats a pretty good turnoff for me. If they had given us a choice between unpainted figs and pay a little more for painted figs I would have understood better, but seriously these haphazard models should be a $20 set for the infantry and $18 or a little less for the tanks. So they made my decision for me about the game.

Well some may not agree with that, but I do agree with what you said about the price.

Here in australia, getting into this game can cost more then 40K.
And I think thats just shocking....

Actually, you can get those prices online easily:

And frankly, mongoose didn't have to ask if you wanted them pre-painted. They have already, just one week after release, sold out of the first production run. I just don't understand this bitterness toward something new and daring, especially when there's probably something else out there that you've been wanting to try or get into. Personally I've had a lot of fun detailing and converting my models. That's the most fun part of mini painting for me. And it's something I can do at my liesure because the minis are already good enough to play with.

I don't think the pricing is all that bad (although I'll get them from Dancing Dryad who are knocking a few quid off - their ACTA and SST stuff is pretty cheap too) when you consider that a box of 8 MI cost £12 unbuilt and then at least another tenner for glue and paint. Even if you use the same paint for a couple of sets the price would be much like the EVO ones. The Marty Feldman eyes on the odd model can be easily corrected and any bent parts can be fixed with some hot water and a bit of patience. From what I can tell from photos of the real tanks they are correctly scaled with the men. I thought they were a bit out until I got to compare the actual models. The Abrams has at least three current versions in service and the EVO version is a future type so any differences can be put down to that.

Well, After our local game night, they sold faily well. I have to take back a bit of what I said earlier, once you get them on the table and arent staring at them up close they arent TOO bad. I guess I had really high hopes after seeing the "test pics' online a few months back, which looked red hot for pre-painted. Also, I do tend to be picky on paint jobs, being a professional level mini painter.

However, I still feel they are a bit over priced.

To the guy who said "

I think you are missing a big point on pricing. If a game is slighty over priced (and it is), buying online doesnt help the situation. At least not for your local game store. Game discount for retailers are crap, and every year more and more stores close. ONline slaes are a large part of the problem. Last year in the USA alone, we are at a loss of over 500 stores. So if you buy online, and then wonder why your local game store doesnt have better free terrain and play space for you....... try going and playing down at the local "online store" that saved you a few bucks.

Before owning a store, I used to think that companies like GW who had regulations about how much you could discount thier product for were just being ass. I still think they are overboard on some of the rules, but now I am realizing more and more that they are helping retailers . (although GW still selling online themselves doesnt). This hobby is unique in the fact that a very large part of it is getting together with lots of people and playing games/tournaments/game nights, which quickly become crowded in someones garage. Brick and mortar stores are neccessary for this hobby. Small stores cant stay alive discounting 30% like the dumbass who is selling those online.

Quick summary because I know I ramble: If people have to look for a discount to make a game worth buying, then mongoose still makes the money, you still get your minis, the local game store is cut out of the loop completely. To many times over, the local game store stops making any money, the local game store closes, people have a harder time getting minis and games. Finding pick up games is near impossible, no impulse buys, ect. Gaming in your area starts dieing off as more and more people turn to the instant gratification of online games.........

Said "dumbasses" might be your only source of models to begin with...

I don't think name calling people running their own bussiness is going to help anyone...

I whole heartedly support calling people names, warrented or not!

Tneva, you kumquat!

Lighten up folks or I'll bust out with the newspaper!

You un-educated sod! :D

http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/kumquat.html

Kumquats have been called "the little gems of the citrus family". They were included in the genus Citrus until about 1915 when Dr. Walter T. Swingle set them apart in the genus Fortunella, which embraces six Asiatic species. The common name, which has been spelled cumquat, or comquot, means "gold orange" in China. The Japanese equivalent is kin kan or kin kit for the round type, too kin kan, for the oval type. In Southeast Asia, the round is called kin, kin kuit, or kuit xu, and the oval, chu tsu or chantu. In Brazil, the trade name may be kumquat, kunquat, or laranja de ouro, dos orientais.

Kumquats are believed native to China. They were described in Chinese literature in 1178 A.D. A European writer in 1646 mentioned the fruit as having been described to him by a Portuguese missionary who had labored 22 years in China. In 1712, kumquats were included in a list of plants cultivated in Japan. They have been grown in Europe and North America since the mid-19th Century, mainly as ornamental dooryard trees and as potted specimens in patios and greenhouses. They are grown mainly in California, Florida and Texas; to a lesser extent in Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Surinam, Colombia and Brazil. In South India, they can be grown only at high elevations. There is limited cultivation in Australia and South Africa.

Problem is two-fold: a) I'm not that interested in fruits b) I'm not native english speaker :D It's entirely possible I know it from finnish name but english name leaves me blank

As someone who lives at the arse end of cornwall, I can tell you that finding any gaming group outside of my GW store is a nightmare.

The previous poster is quite right when he says that with gaming sotres few and far between (at least down here), it is harder to get casual people in to the game because of lack of visibility.

I know for a fact that when I say 'miniatures' to most of my friends they immediately think GW. Outside of the gaming community, I believe that is the prevailing feeling as well.

Its great that GW has club nights etc, but they are only selling their own product. Indie gaming stores have the flexiblity to showcase what ever they stock and want to promote.

My point amongst all this rambling is that, although I would indeed shop around online for these minis, I would also make a point of using a store that stocked them.

How else am I gonna find like minded players and dedicated hobbyists who love and play the game?

EVO command has the map that shows where its members are but beyond that, is there a network where you can fiond like minded players in your areas? No.

We need to collectively do what we can to raise awareness of this game in stores and in clubs we go to.

That way hopefully schmucks like me, who lives miles from others who've bought the game can start to meet up with other players.

Rant over

Well a few points:

Firstly, its all well and good saying support your local store but simply put some people simply cannot afford RRP and if an online shop is going to offer 25% off or some such then then people WILL take advantage of it.

Secondly not everyone HAS a local game store. There are two local stores within relatively easy reach for me but one neither of them stock BF Evo. Now Im sure that either of them WOULD order them in specifically if I asked them but for me that sort of defeats the point I'm afraid, I will, given the chance ALWAYS buy from a show rather than online for one simple reason alone: I'm incredibly impatient, if I can get something NOW rather than having to wait for it to be delivered, I'll get it now, even if it costs me slightly more :P

I suspect I'm not alone here, but if I'm going to have to wait for something to be ordered, and its a choice of get it ordered to local shop, wait a few days and have to pick it up and pay more, or have it delievered to me at home for much less, it just makes sense to do so.

I know from the point of view of a store owner you obviously want people to buy stuff in your shop but in the end, the average consumer really coulnt care less whether the shops make a living or not, they just want it cheaper! The real thing shops have over online, as I said, is convenience, you can just walk in and walk out with your purchace without having to wait for it :) As long as gamers are impatient (and lord knows alot of us are!) and game stores keep things in stock they will still be around :D

ps. I see you also joined the 'hmm acutally these arent that bad at all' crowd. Your far from alone there (I think just about everyone here screamed bloody murder when they saw the change from the initial photos but looking at them straight up theyre actually pretty good (it was just a shock after the previews, which were stunning)

Try google.com? :?

Mate, how do think I found out about this game in the first place?

Seriously though, if any of you fellas know of anybody even vaguely interested in the game in my neck of the woods let me know.

I'll give them the hard sell :D
