Finally saw the figs

Mongoose
And

They're quite good. The problem is they look small because I suspect they are normally proportioned, but on the whole, not bad at all. Up close you can start picking faults, but at "table" distances they are ok.

Yep, I kept saying that, and saying that.

The whole paint quality issue was overblown, way overblown. These miniatures are tiny compared to most current minis. Not only in height, but their thickness is more realistic to the scale, so there just isn't a whole lot of surface to paint on. What people thought were large splotches of paint in those ridiculous close-ups images were tiny dots.

And yeah, if you held the mini right up to your eye it'd look like that. But at table distance and even much closer the minis still look good, and very few people would be able or willing to paint these much better.

I just picked up a couple of boxes myself and I'm gonna have to eat a little crow here. The figures a nice... nicer than I expected, and my firebreathing at the original production photos seems a little lame to me now  . I am glad MG got these right. Pretty nice painting for figures of this size. Good job, Mongoose. I'm sold.

Got my Marines and M1 today and I'm really pleased. Well, actually the M1 is missing a piece and the paint needs touching up. But being an old school painter I'm kinda looking foward to it.

Yup, as BG said, I may be heading for the humble pie shop. Funnily enough, I was more dissapointed with the tanks, which do not look that convincing.

I got a look at the Wave 1 stuff yesterday. They look far better than the initial pictures, although if I decide to go for some (I'm waiting until the rulebook and heavy weapons teams come out before I decide - there's plenty of ACTA and SST stuff that I want and I'll need to buy new terrain if I get involved in BF:EVO). The tanks are pretty nice, if a little "plasticy" looking. Nothing a coat of matt varnish won't fix. I get the same problem with some acrylic paints and do the same.

I feel the M1's scaling is still off....

then every other scaling is of as well then, ive compared a few and the MGP ones are as spot on as any other company !!

maybe the m1 you see isnt 1/1 scale maybe its oversized :D

i thought the warrior was over sized till i did the conversions and compared to ther kits, its spot on.

I took along some models to my local club to get some opinions, and most people thought the infantry were a good deal, and the tanks looked good, but the plastic on the tanks felt a bit toyish. They also didn't like the slightly visible gap between turret and body. They thought they were out of scale as well, and a bit over priced at £15.

They did like Rob's Hiluxes though.

£15 overpriced for a prebuilt and prepainted tank ? is this from the same people who have to build and paint their own £25 tanks ?

i get the feeling people exspect the prepaint bit to be feree or cheaper lol

the tanks are a little shinny but if this a problem a quick spray of dull coat will sort that.

The tanks are ok, but the issue with the price imho is the infantry especially when you compare them to other prepaints like D&D minis.

Now admittedly these are much nicer and by comparison, a box of say, space marines costs about 25 quid I believe (probably gone up since I last bought any though!)

Still these are smaller minis so 20 quid does seem a bit expensive. Dancing Dryad are selling them for 16.50 a box though, which to my mind is MUCH more like it :D (and 12.50 for tanks :D)

Normally a hell of a lot cheaper than £25.

Precisely what PilGrim said.
I don't know why Im arguing, I havent got a problem here!
Im playing MEA!

I'm happy for you out there that actually saw those troops.
It seems that here in Belgium they are using their stealth to the max, cause I haven't seen them anywhere yet.

Unless I've been looking on the wrong side.

Bummer, aqnybody out there able to point me in the right direction (if youy live in Belgium at least)

Thanks

Yup - I did say something like it, but I think I have been deleted \ edited out by the Mongoose Thought Police. Not a good sign really.

*coughs* Actually, the turret itself traps the driver inside on the model, Mr Evil. The Coaxial MG's barrel is too long, heck, the turret just seems a bit..well... large too.

And it's nice that you compared it, Evil, but keep in mind people come in different shapes and sizes, and the average hight of the male of the human species isn't 6ft.

Edit: According to the ex Tanker in my office (He actually commanded a unit of M1s), the equipment rack is bigger than he remembers, the square bits on the top of the turret aren't actually square and aren't that large, and the front slope's off....

i agree, i was underwhelmed by the M1 and most of the miniature line, the tanks just looked wrong, and cartoony, the infantry, well when i went through the boxes a few where off their base, and the guns were bent. im sorry, but if im gonna pay $30 for ten guys, id rather build them and paint them myself.

I am a store owner, and very dissapointed in these miniatures. I hope I can actually sell enough to recover the money I spent on them, and will most likely be cancelling my pre-order on further sets.

The minis them selves are ok i guess, I think sculpt wise about the same as the star wars/ d&d prepainted, just much more expensive. Also, no collectability, which normally I would say is a bad thing. With this high a price tag though, they need a good reason to be purchased.

The paint quality is horrible on the minis we got in. Many misplaced eyes, splotches of paint in the wrong spot, what apears to be fingerprints in paint, Burn marks in the paint from the glue that was used to assemble the minis, even poor ringing of the base itself, which is the easiest part to paint. These minis, in my opinion, are painted even worse than the miniatures you get for D&D and star wars.

After eating a ton of crap minis from these guys for the skinnies, I was hoping this line of ministures would be a breath of fresh air. The rules better rock, or I am going to have to ebay these off for a loss.........these are horrid.

Well, I perfer these over those Starwars miniatures... mostly because I don't have to buy tones of boxes (which, as a game store owner, you'd perfer) to get what I want....
