Extreme Strength and Melee Combat

After re-reading the animal damage rules (TMB p.72) I thought about applying these rules to sophont PCs and NPCs. Simply put, characters with STR 11 or more would add 1d6 to the damage of all melee attacks.

An additional house-rule I'm thinking about is to reduce the melee damage of animals and sophonts with extremely low strength (2 or less) by one die; 1d6 would become 1 so unarmed (or animal) melee damage of such weaklings would be 1 damage point.

What do you think of these potential rulings?
