Excel Ship Designer v2025.05.13

Ok, I see the pod option. But how do I build the mother ship? In the case of the Aurora Clipper, do I build a 2080 ton ship, or a 600 ton? how do I get the base ship, if I'm building it at 600 tons, to have the hardpoints for the 2080 tons? That's what's stymied me so far.
On a 600 ton base, without the modules installed, you only get 6 hardpoints. The rest are on modules.

You can check modules installed and make a version of the ship that has everything installed already.

Built like this, do you need the docking clamps to hold the modules or is that accounted for in the module allocations?

Seventh build: no issues. I'm done for the evening. I'll get more tomorrow after I get some writing done. Deadline approaching.

Cell C28 on the 9a Optional tab references T33 in the validation but should reference U33 for the maximum value. Looks like this is a long-time bug that no one noticed.

T33 selects between U33 and V33 based on Ships Info F6. If it didn't give you a wrong answer, that should be the correct cell. if it did, I need to fix those three cells.

I made a 700,000-ton station and it denied me making 7,000 free 2-ton airlocks. U33 shows 7,000 so I must assume that is the correct maximum as the other cells you mentioned were 1,400.

And I'm talking about the max in the validation for C28, not the three cells directly.

Modules predate station functionality. That error has been there since the stations update, Fixed and thanks for catching it.

Edit: or rather stations inadvertently made it an error.

Module allocation.
Can a regular ship be used as a module? The Aurora has a Mantis class fueler, basically a fuel tank that can go and refuel itself. What about small craft? My assumption at this point is they need docking clamps for those things but then I don't know how to account for them in the ship's build. I could reduce the hull size by 480 tons and add the clamps and set everything else as pods, since off the top of my head I don't think any of the other modules are independent units but then my ship mass is off. And those clamps are kinda big compared to the module adjustment.

Also, when making the Mantis, using the Cabin Space option in the crew section to add crew capacity doesn't work, it just adds it to the Seating Interplanetary section. I'm assuming that's by design? The Mantis is specifically mentioned as a short range ship with a crew of 12 and seating accommodations so I'm assuming that is an illegal design in Mongoose? it works with Barracks housing so I have a workaround but was just curious.

Cabin space doesn’t count for housing. It’s for a few hours time like seating, I believe. If that’s all it is sound, it should be enough. If it’s longer, it isn’t.

If it is longer, using barracks is gaming the system, in my opinion, and shouldn’t be used for anything but troops.

I think there is a switch to say it’s interplanetary isn’t there?

This one changed to yes should solve the problem, I think.

Ok, switching that toggle does nothing. I don't see any changes on the sheet and it still shows the crew as unaccommodated.

Cabin Space, but I just tested and it's the same results for all 3.

You need acceleration benches or bridge space. Will take a look at the toggle in a few hours. It may have got disconnected when I split crew and passenger accomodations. Need staterooms for extended life support.
Small craft: breakaway hulls, docking bays, hangars or clamps. Modules cannot have bridges or engines.

If they can't have bridges, does that also mean that they can't have computers?

Cockpit counts as a bridge, but a module does not get a separate computer. A pod can have a dedicated control center, and can have a computer.
