Excel Ship Designer v2025.05.09

You still need something to power life support, weapons, sensors and maneuver. For plants, I read it as whatever fuel is needed, that is what is in the tank. I wouldn't think Chemical would use hydrogen either.
Jump fuel can be zero, yeah.
My base assumption is that with a collector and antimatter power for everything, there would be no hydrogen required. I play it that way, anyhow. This isn't worth tweaking, I was just mentioning it and now I understand the reasoning and can work around it. Thanks.

I always assumed the antimatter fuel tanks either held equal amounts of hydrogen and anti-hydrogen in separate tanks, as an easy proton/anti-proton annihilation (less likely because of safety concerns), or that hydrogen and a precursor fuel were stored until the precursor was blasted into antimatter in an accelerator, then mixed with hydrogen. Or is Star Trek tainting my understanding? in which case, Bussard ram scoops.

A feature request. I got tired of having to add the fuel capacity for transcribing the designs and added a field that I think would be helpful to others on the fuel tab.1729818922983.png

Feature request: On the SSD tab, I want to change the width of the various 'system description' columns and so on. I cannot, because they are the same columns which are used for the 'Hull Points' at the top. Could we please have the 'Weapons / Range / Damage / Notes/Mods / Critical Hits / Critical Severity' table at the top left, with the 'Hull Points/ & etc' table to the right?

Well, we can change the width, by unmerging and remerging cells to the appropriate size. Before going through and fixing the formulae by hand in each of those hundreds of tiny boxes filled with tiny white text, at the risk of missing one and having the thing fall apart when we get to a number I didn't test right, how many columns would you like to change things by?
I'd need that info anyway (field width) in a complete redesign of the page.

I appreciate this is a big ask, and the sheet is already the product of a lot of great work; so if you don't feel like it then please do not worry. My decrepit old eyes just need to adjust font-size and similar stuff to enhance readability for myself. I cannot give you a specific 'size'; I would just like to be able to read the whole text in the cells on the table at the bottom.

Initially I though ti would be tedious-but-straightforward to just add a dozen (or few dozen) columns on the left side, & cut-and-paste the bottom table -- but that does not work either, because the row-height for the 'Hull Points' table is different. Now I am thinking just a separate tab would be easiest.... (*shrug*) I dunno.

Also -- maybe alter the number of hits per row of 'Hull Points' table down to just 100 instead of 120? Marking off Spinal Weapons damage is in groups of thousands at a time, and being able to just count 'this is ten rows, so it is a thousand' seems easier.

Considering that you guys have been going crazy with supersized ships lately, I can add a tab after Cargo for a two page Cap Ship SSD. One page for armor and one for everything else. That will allow for bigger ships and let the weapons and (maybe) the Crit Table spread out a bit.
Might take a while.

We appreciate it. And until you've built a 35-billion-ton station/J-3 ship (which I don't have at hand, of course), you haven't gone big. ;)

I did find a precursor 1-billion-ton non-jump manufactory/starport. I added some input/output to the manufactory part so I could change amounts and see what I was working with rather than getting out the calculator every time I tweaked a number. I also made up advancements that matched what came before in output and processing for TL-16 as that was what it was going to be. That's all me.

Would a x1000 setting be useful?
That will push the max size for boxes up to 10,000,000 and add a set of 100's boxes (0,100,200...900)
Without it, your box count maxes at 1,056,000, using the x1 and x10 partial markers.
10,560 boxes fit on one page with room for one line of legible text underneath.
Can probably make the partial markers a little bigger too. 3x3 instead of the current 2x2

What do the diagonal-hashed boxes represent? And the white-vs-grey coloring?
The SSD's are for tracking combat at the table.

The hull points are white. When you reach a hashed box, that is the 10% critical point. Grey is more hull hits than your ship has. If you get there, that is the expanding cloud of debris the salvage section of the rules says you can't salvage.
The 0-9 on the side lets you track damage that doesn't get to the next box, if the scale is activated. So 47 points of damage would check off 4 boxes of hull and place a marker on the 7, since this ship has more than 10,000 hull points and the scale went logarithmic.

NEW VERSION: 2024.10.25

- Fuel Capacity field added to the Fuel Purifier area for your convenience.
- Capital Ship SSD, located after the Cargo Tab, allows for bigger ships and small starbases to have their hull points tracked. 10,560 boxes with a x10, x100 and x1000 scale. It is broken out into three pages, to make for larger print of most fields. Warning, the large number of boxes makes the rendering of the hull point page slow. 3rd page has an unlocked notes field.
- Laser Bays and Burst Lasers added and existing laser barbettes conform to the newer rules in Traders and Gunboats

Always appreciate the updates.

When you do your next update, please look at the Weapons tab and the Mixed Weapon in HP option. Sandcaster appears to be missing from the dropdown.

Thanks for the work.
