Excel Ship Designer v2025.05.09

You can do whatever you want with, and presumably place anything into, a Multi-Environment Space, not just staterooms.

The Kranth-Technoshaman's suggestion to not allocate any specific space for MES just the machinery, and let the user keep track of what spaces are MES, isn't bad.

The perfect solution would be to handle it like Armoured Bulkheads i.e. any system or component can be designated as MES, but that would be overkill?

I was looking at keeping what I have for Multi-Environment, and changing the designated crew staterooms into designated ME staterooms. That way, both mindsets are represented, thereby increasing the options.

OK. I see what you were saying.
I will also add undesignated space that does not take up additional tonnage, other than the ME equipment.

When the next update hits, the SSD will scale to handle ships up to 300K Hull points, instead of the current 3K limit.
The boxes will either show as 10 points or 100 points with a ones and tens counter on the side for intermediate values.

This should be well above the sane limit of general table top gaming using the standard rules, versus streamlined fleet rules. (i.e. it covers ships up to the Plankwell Class Dreadnaught, but not the Tigress Class)

Latest Update is up here and on first post:

I tried to catch everything before posting, but I am sure there is something I missed.
Checked it against a few HG ships and it seemed to be in the ball park... although it is hard when they don't have their stats in order... Like the Chrysanthemum's half priced TL 15 power plant...

Ran a few ships through it. Seems accurate, although the need to define Barbettes and Bays as user-defined weapons is a pain. (Also, pretty sure a particle beam can't fit in a standard turret: needs a barbette or bay.)

One suggestion: you may want to show costs in megacredits rather than credits, for easier readability. Here's a custom number format that should do that:

Code:
#,##0.00,," MCr";[Red] (#,##0.00,," MCr")

Thanks for taking a look.

The instructions above the weapons section indicate that only turrets, fixed mounts and firmpoints/firmpoint barbettes can be placed in the first three rows (HP01-HP03). This is due to the mixed weapon capability and using the same lines for small craft.

After that, the barbettes and bays are available. (HP04-HP20)

Turret mounted particle accelerators are a thing. The turret PA stats are copied straight from High Guard.
The Record Sheet lists costs as MCr.

The only canon weapon you NEED the user defined stats for (so far) is the Companion's Cannonades. And that is because the volume rules for that system are not stated in that reference. This allows referees to determine what volume, if any, they want to use.

Next update will include formatting for the instruction box and the first three lines to make it more clear what's going on.

Actually, if you download after reading this, it's there...

Ahh, gotcha! I misread that. Thanks!

No problem. Gave me a chance to update and make it more clear.

Fixed an issue with Weapons: HP02 and HP03 where they intermittently calculate incorrectly.

New Version: 2021 7 D2

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Collapsible tanks: Takes up no space.

Demountable tanks: Takes up no cargo space.

With 72 Dt cargo, some Collapsible tanks and some Demountable tanks, cargo capacity is still 72 Dt?

Collapsible tanks are not described as temporary, unlike demountable tanks, so are presumably a "permanent" feature of the ship.

Example: The Great Rift, Book 2, p52:

Most "Installed"-"Not Installed" drop-downs are unnecessary and fill no purpose other than slowing down the design process.

If you specify a size of cargo hold, you presumably want it, no need to specify "Installed" separately?
uKnn3xP.png

Just let the designer fill in a cargo hold size, default the quantity to "1", and remove the "Installed" drop-down?

Or even better default to "Auto" and allocate all free space to cargo? (I use negative numbers for Auto, can't be used otherwise and easy to display with a number format.)

Please keep track of which cell is selected on each sheet when you save, that is what we have to start with:

Why start with Configuration, not say Hull Size?

Note that the black frame around the editable cells make it hard to see which cell is selected with default settings (blue frame around selected cell?).

Small craft: Barbette cost wrong, Power consumption wrong:

Should be MCr 8 and Power 15 × 75% = 11.25, respectively.

There are no Fixed Mounts involved in barbettes?

By default, yes.

Particle turret weapons are available as optional rules in the High Tech chapter, but they should probably not be available in the current OTU, since they are not available in T5.

In my spreadsheet I make them available with an asterisk, and last in the list:
