Excel Ship Designer v2025.05.03

Concealed is meant to be hidden.
Adjustable changes the signature
Variable can either mask the signature (edit: hide) or change the signature
How is it different though hiding your thrusters behind a bulkhead versus hiding your thrusters behind a hull plate? Why does one hide it and the other only alter its emissions? Concealed even says it has exhaust ports. Adjustable has no exhaust ports. So, wouldn't it make more sense for Concealed to alter the emissions and Adjustable to block/hide them based on how they are described? If I put a light behind a steel wall, I cannot see the light. If I put a vent in that same wall, I can see the emissions from the light, but it is shining in a different pattern than if the wall isn't there. So, Concealed seems more to Me like altering emissions and Adjustable seems more like blocking, based on how they are described as working.

Concealed drives hide from sensors. (Stealth Drive).
Adjustable hull allows you to make your signature different, within your tonnage, but does not reduce detection. (Smuggler Hull)
Variable Emissions drive lets you choose between masking your signature (Stealth-lite) or modifying your signature to be smaller or larger than your hull. (Smuggler's Drive)

Mechanically, I get it, but the way they are described as working is causing problems for Me. What is the difference between putting the drives behind a bulkhead as opposed to behind a hull plate?

One is built to hide emissions completely and uses extra materials at reduced capacity to do it - and the other is made to block/change the visible aspects, with the intent of fooling people instead of hiding from them.

I know the intent, but in both cases, it is simply that the thrusters are covered over. How does simply covering the thrusters alter the drive signature, but covering the thrusters and increasing the size of the drive removes the signature completely, unless you are at Full resolution range on your sensors in which case, it alters nothing. Concealed Drives, range doesn't matter, but Adjustable Hull is range-dependent. Concealed Drives have exhaust, but Adjustable Hulls do not.

Do you see the difference there? I know they say they are different mechanically, but how they describe them as working, doesn't make sense.

With Exhaust ports, no emissions (Concealed). Without exhaust ports, altered emissions (Adjustable). With exhaust ports, reduced emissions (Variable).

More clues matter because #N/A indicates a lookup that is out of range, and everything is a lookup.
Edit: Never mind. I remembered you do small craft, and found the culprit.

-Drone Ship bridges no longer cause an error, and provide zero seats for small craft

Ok, you beat me to replying since I stepped away after posting the error. :)
Just tested and can confirm it's working.

You’re probably right.

I found this in The Riverland, so I’ll drop it here for completeness.

It's why our submariners try to sneak up on the oppositions' vessels, and make prolonged recordings of their engine noises.

Useful to know which starwarship is currently present, at any particular system, as it informs of the enemies' capabilities, and in the strategic sense, where it's not.

On the whole, I never considered the adjustable hull to be able to conceal the electronic signatures of the spacecraft components, just the visual silhouette of the hull.

If you use standard components, such as the manoeuvre drive type/a prevalent on many Scout Couriers, unless you had it's specific emissions on record, you probably couldn't tell the difference.

So this is a Module at TL6 and it's throwing a fuel error, though it lists it a 9b - Options page error at the bottom of the summary. Attached with newest design sheet.
No, it is throwing the same error as the sensor, and for the same reason. The default basic sensor TL now goes to zero when you set QTY to zero.
Same with the Sol excursion bays on Tab 9b.

No errors now! It does still show Prototype on the Software line in the Summary but I can live with that.
Thanks for all your help!
