Evils USMC

Yes, the test was on performance in dogfights, not BVR interception performance. Rate of turn etc. I think the harrier has the edge, especially where it can vector its thrust, even if not in speed (by a long way - it is afterall subsonic).
That being said, I would've thought a harrier would avoid BVR engagement by closing range at v. low altitute.

Well, if you recall, one of the Aussie pilots could see the F-22, but was unable to get a lock on the bird during this year's Red Flag. Apparently 2 F-22 were shot down, but that was attribuited to the pilots being unfamiliar with it.

Funnily enough, I've just read the account of the Falklands air war by the CO of one of the two air wings, 800 and 801 sqdns, embarked upon Invincible, (Sea Harriers over the Falklands by Sharkey Ward) .

Its worth reading "Hostile Skies", David Morgan's account of the Falklands air war for a view of life in the other squadron. They complement each other quite nicely.

I'm only 25 and didn't have internet untill 9 years ago, and even then I was more into books on the military than keeping up to date stuff.

Otherwise...I'll find out the hard way
;)
