Needless to say, there were several flaws inherent in my logic. First, shadow gates stay in the realm of Aon: Magnamund, and the Daziarn, so no gates could open up to other worlds.

I thought there were other worlds in Aon, where the Shianti and the Drakkar come from. IIRC half are ruled by evil, half by good and Magnamund is the one in balance.

Correct. Besides, Aon and Daziarn are two separate planes. Aon is the material universe while the Daziarn is an ethereal corridor connecting the planes (light, darkness, the four elemental planes and the plane of confluence).
