[Elric] - (Possibly stupid) question about Summoning Skills

Kamelion

Mongoose
I have a feeling that this is a really dumb question, but I want to double-check anyway.

Sorcerers buy a separate summoning skill for each creature that they want to be able to summon, right? That is my understanding from the text, but I want to be totally clear, as it's not wholly explicit in a couple of places.

So there is no generic Summoning Ritual, right? It has to be bought as a separate skill for each creature. So a sorcerer who wants to be able to summon demons of combat, demons of protection, fire elementals and elenoin (to pluck examples from the air) needs to learn four separate Summoning Rituals, right? (Plus usually have appropriate Pacts as well, I'd guess.) So if that sorcerer was a starting character, he'd be spending 40 of his free skill points just to get those four sorcery skills at their base level of POW, and then add further free skill points to each one in turn if desired (or advance each one individually through play.)

I'm sure that this is obvious enough, but I'm kind of on a "looking under the hood" binge with Elric right now, so I figured I'd ask. Thanks!

That is correct. The ability to summon four separate types of entities would require four different summoning ritual spells.

In general, beginning sorcerers would be better served focusing on one of the demonic summoning rituals, as well as Command and a Pact, and work to pick up additional spells as play progresses.
