Dragon Warriors compared to RuneQuest2

I have the MRQ2 players handbook, and its a good system that I like.

However it does get to be a hassle sometimes having to come up with cults/spells and such for the setting.

Dragon Warriors looks great from what I've seen in the sample. Quick, easy to play and understand. I would like to know more, what features would you say are its best? How does it compare to RuneQuest in your opinion?

Dragon Warriors is a far simpler system than RQII and therefore better suited to groups that prefer free style role-playing without becoming bogged down in rules. I'd say the best part of the game is the setting and background information, indeed there's nothing stopping you using the RQII ruleset with the backgound supplied and you'd have the best of both worlds! It all depends on your players really, ask them which rules they prefer and go with that. The DW aventures could be converted to RQII by any competent GM.

I don't have Dragon Warrior but the system stems from an old series of gamebooks (choose your own adventure books). You'll find some info there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Warriors

Uh, no.

DW was originally published in paperback form but it was a full RPG.

Daxos have you downloaded the free introductory book, free adventures off of magnumopuspress.com or Ordo Draconis #1? Those are all free and they'll give you a good idea.

Personally DW is the only game I play these days, its quick, easy and has served me well for 20+ years. :)

I did download the free introductory book. It looks really good from what I have read. I can't remember if it went over any spells or how magic works, I don't have my computer in front of me at the moment.

I am thinking about DW because, like D&D, a player can write up their character and have any backstory or character personality they want. In RQ the system really needs an established setting so the player can choose what culture they come from. That limits them to what's in the setting and their magic is dependant on the cults their culture has access to or beleives in.

I could also just improvise names, peoples, and other things without being faithful to a particular setting. That's what I'm looking for in DW.
