Hello all,

Back in 2017 I started working through HG 2e and asked on how to correctly calculate the cost of a double hull and hamster cage hull. Unfortunately, I misplaced the spreadsheet and have started a new one and this time around I can not seem to calculate the cost even after looking at the topic threat.

Here goes my latest attempt to make sure I've got the process down correctly.

Parameters: 1,000 ton standard hull configuration without grav plates. Base hull Cost = 1,000 x 25,000 = 25,000,000

Double Hull: The Outer hull is 60 tons which is 60/1,000 = 6% of the main hull. The spin machinery is 60 x .1 = 6 tons and the cost is 25,000,000 x 6% = 1,500,000. The total hull cost is 25,000,000 + 1,500,000 = 26,500,000.

Hamster Cage: There are two 15 m cages each of which is 30 tons. Each cage requires 3 tons of spin machinery. One cage is 30/1,000 = 3% of the hull. Both cages together are 6% of the 1,000 ton hull and per MgT HG 2e page 12 the hull's cost increase 2% for each 1% of hamster cage tonnage. The cost is 25,000,000 x (6% x 2) = 25,000,000 x 12% = 3,000,000. Hull cost = 25,000,000 + 3,000,000 =28,000,000.

How far out to lunch am I on this one?

Not at all? I agree with both calculations.

Gasp, I must of done something wrong to get the process down on the first try.

Thank you for confirming that I was able to understand something on the first try for a change.
