Dodges against explosions?

Can you use the Dodge Trait against a ship exploding? The rule book only states you can't use it against Energy Mines and Jump Points. Anyone? -Thanks.

IIRC, in 1st edition you could first not dodge explosions, then it was changed to yes you can, which then seems to have been transfered over to 2nd ed. It does make sense though, ship parts flying around should be dodgeable.

Jump Point Vortex and Energy Mine weapons are both energy shockwaves that expand too quickly and uniformly to dodge. Exploding Ships on the other hand have flying bits of ship that can be sidestepped just like missiles or other particulate shot.

On the topic of expoding ships: For 2nd Edition considerations, are Ancients/Vorlon/Shadows still exempt from explosions when they are reduced to below zero damage?

Nope, they can still blow up with the best of them!

omg....Shadow and Vorlons explode now...how did I miss that. What do we have against the fluff here... We see a number of Shadow deaths, none I would call an explosion...sad really.

We do see Vorlon ships fly apart in a hail of debris! Nothing to say Shadow ships can't although I do admit they are one race you'd tend not to see explode. (the main reason 1st ed. didn't have Vorlon/Shadow explosions was not based on fluff - it was because with the Damage mechanic they'd blow up virtually every time!)

We did seem them break up...but no bang...no flash....guess it all depends on how you picture 'destroyed' vs 'explodes'. Seems to me ever single ship should produce an explosion then, as virtually all destroyed ships produced debris.

Nah, there are several examples of destroyed ships with internal fires and no external debris.
