so you are saying if I got 8 beam hits, my opponent only rolls 1 dodge for every beam hit, then one dodge for 6 pulsar hits, man thats Crap, EVERYone i know rolls per succesful hit, Dodge is now an all or nothing roll for each weapon system shooting then.

No. That's his twisted version. Not how rules REALLY go.

yeah, Dodge is rolled for every successful dice roll form teh weapon system. so if teh beam weapon rolls 8 successful dice, you roll 8 dodge saves.

That might make sense for a battery of pulse cannon, but how could it possibly be justified for a beam weapon?

If somones trying to keep a beam focuses on you, you can dodge in and out of it as you try to avoid it.

But more simply than that its just easier than having roll dodges as you go through each beam hit etc.

Well, I asked for a clarification in the Rulesmasters forum. After running a search I couldn't find any official post in there indicating whether I was right or wrong.

Either way, I don't appreciate Tneva's personal attacks. Although it just goes to show what sort of man he is. The fact that he stormed out of our Vassal game in a huff and now takes every opportunity he can to insult me tells us all a lot about him.

actually I AM pretty sure this has been officially answered in the past and that Tnevas interpretation of the rules is correct. Will post link when/if I find it. For all its usees I find the search function less than helpful at times (mainly because people dont always name their threads very well) (for example if you were looking for threads about this issue would you look at this one from the title?)

Incidentally youre also assuming with your 1 dodge idea that all beam weapons represent a single beam that just rolls for effect when in most cases the base attack dice represent multiple weapon systems just like any other weapon system.

Besides the wording isn't particularly vauge in this case anyway:

Whenever a ship SUFFERS A HIT. The 'subsequent effects' refer to cirtical hits etc, any special effects the weapon may have. The extra beam hits are effectively nothing more than rerolls or extra AD and you get a dodge against every one just like any other weapon.

Well it can't have been a very thourough search for previous answers as this thread is on the first page if you search for 'dodge':

Knew I was sure it had been clarified before :P

To bring the thread back on track, at Patrol level you don't have much choice about Hull 4 ships.

Otherwise, I like many other people like the Olympus. And can anyone really dispute the 'alpha-strike' capability of an Olympus Gunship in an Ambush?

In normal battles I'd def take the majority of my ship with Hull 5 or 6 so it forces them to make the choice of getting the [arguably] easy kill or to hit the thicker hulls.
