Do this to your sst game to make it better!

Mongoose
when you play only allow one reaction per enemy unit . the opposeing player dosent have to auto mactically react to a unit that moves with in 10 inchs but the have the otion . if the want they can hold untill another unit gives them a chance to react . it gives the game more tactics! tell me what you think after trying it a cupple of times!

as a side not, in the tournament i played against bugs the multiple reacion made the playing bugs a complete nighmare, and so much room for error made the turn unfair on the enemy, and bogged the game down in speed.

one reaction per unit, is the one viable option,

the other is that a unit has to use its second action to go into reaction mode, were it may react as many times as it likes.

Isn't it a bit late to be claiming the multiple reactions made the game unplayble? The games been out in its current format ages and won awards without people complaining.

It might make the game quicker, but don't go claiming that SST v1 was a clunky unplayable system just cause the new ones coming out (Even if it is better).

My main problem with it is warhammer syndrome. You know when a new rule book comes out, which look basically the same so you dont bother actually reading them, and then as the year goes on you find more and more things your doing completly wrong :D

Im trying to have an open minds as far as the new versions concerned, but alarm bells are ringing.
Any idea if the main rule book they're releasing is gonna move it more towards V1 style gameplay Hiro?
Or are they gonna be sticking with the quicker simpler style of play?

I'm afraid if you want v1 style of game play, you're probably best off sticking with v1. They stick in rules like special abilities and a campaign bit, a mission generator, and some advanced rules along with fluff for four sides. This means that we're now going to be capped at four races.

?!?!
Damn it, Folth were the least promising out of the proposed races too (I still liked the mongoosians lol):|

Damn it, all they had to do was sort out the examples, do a bit of proof reading, slap in some nicer artwork and write some better fluff. The game would have been perfect!
Seems like Mongoose is moving it more towards tourny style play, I.E lots of quick games in an evening rather than one or two epic struggles... Better for a weekly club type setting I suppose.

They are still gonna honour what they said about printing 1st edt. stats somewhere aren't they?

Last v1 stats that crossed my inbox was for the rebel colonials I'm afraid, Max. So no engineers...

I do have the Forth and Coven armybooks on my HD though...

SST as it is now is not slow and clunky and the furious number of reaction shots an MI section can make does rather make up for the fact that they are hideously out numbered and one bug in close combat is a very bad thing. I also like reaction fire as it does tend to cure people of the close combat rules syndrome. Charging troops with missile weapons has never, not been done except through a hail of missile fire even if it’s only sticks and stones.

It also makes the turns feel a lot more simultaneous even when they are not

SST is not going to be limited to 4 races.

There'll be 4 races being released at a time though. (In keeping with the 4 factions out per system on the release schedule per month they seem to have going.

Hiro, where you coming up with a 4 race cap? I know of at least five races that will be out for SST:Evo within the first year...

And BFE is going to start with four factions, but Matt has said more will depend on how the game goes.

Woops....ok, sorry folks, I just checked month 10 to be sure. Yep, there's going to be Five. At any rate though, there's no mention of the borg-esque species in the releases nor in the main rule book, since they've decided to print all the army lists in one book.

And I got it from the fact they only list four armies in the main rulebook for SST:Ev....

As a big fan of the curent rules and echoing Max's concerns, I'm interested in what's being taken out rather than whats added. Being a bug and MI player I had no problem with the multiple reaction idea (but I can adapt, understand there is going to be suppression which will compensate for single reactions and will be more effective against 'shooty' armies).

Cheers
Mark

Well just because Matt doesn't want to do pure army books anymore doesn't mean they can't include new races. A semi-regular new units and background update book a la warmachine would be a good way to introduce something like that.

Actually Shotgun said Signs and Portents.... which makes sense, but come on, if you say you're going to put the army lists in the main book, do all of them for crying out loud.

And, frankly, I'd rather buy an Army book for a specific army than have to tote around an Update book.

Incidently, my Microsoft brand spell check didn't detect any spelling issues or obvious grammer flaws. Hopefully THIS time we'll get a book that makes sense.

Hiromoon, you are forgetting one very key thing.

All unit boxes for SST evo come with all the rules for that unit.

So yes, it's likely that we won't see army books, but that's because we won't need them. It's likely that any campaign or other kinds of add-on books will also include the stats for any units released since previous rules book. These won't simply be update books, but will probably be books like the Klendathu campaign. In a way, they're handling this similarly to War Machine handles their book releases.

Also, they aren't announcing any more factions because they can't confirm what factions will make the cut next time they have new faction releases. It's way to early to say anything about SSTs future plans, especially if you're not part of the company. SST may really take off at retail bringing in a lot new gamers and prompting a big announcement of more factions and more support. Or it could do well but not amazing, and releases come in at a steady pace.

If you want an army book just put all the rules cards for the units you have in a binder and now you have an army book.

The fact is, army books aren't that big of a seller, at least not for smaller games. Not only are you dealing with a relatively small player base, but you're also dividing that player base into even smaller groups that play whatever army you're publishing the book for.
