Direct Fire Artillery

I can appreciate the "observers are there, but hidden' rule - can we have snipers that way as well so they don't get killed so fast?

Seriously, the effect of artillery in SST is fine - and you wont hear me complain aboiut lack of observers if I ever take up that game... just like I don't complain about lack of observation in 40k. I can buy there is a drone, or satellite, or orbiting tactical ship etc... but this is World War II and even though it is just a game and not a simulation - we are using historical models, tactics, settings and so on - I don't see why there isn't at least some mechanic to represent the 'eyes on the field' It just doesn't feel right hitting targets that are in no way visible to anything in your army.

And table size is no way a factor unless you are playing with VERY little terrain. There are things to hide behind in all good games, and you can't tell me that you guys don't have units that get out of sight and still get hit by artillery!

It's not like I'm advocating something that would slow the game down, or require more models. Just requiring a line of sight from something else... so you can say "These guys saw your Germans there, and called in a mortar barrage" Not having a mortar round land smack dab on the German command squad, who is hidden behind a building in the back half of the table and hasn't moved all game.

Personal preference, I guess.

Because Bolt Action don't make a 105mm, the nebelwerfer should have been treated as off-table artillery but as Bolt Action make one, it had to be included.

I don't think BAM & Mongoose are so tied together for WaW that there was a requirement to make entries for all the stuff in the BAM line -

As for the nebelwerfer - it is one of those weapons that would have caused screaming if it wasn't included - like the King Tiger

Just one house rule in a list as long as my arm:

Artillery Observation
Artillery weapons do not have to draw a LoS to place a Fire Zone; however, they require the Fire Zone to be established by any other friendly unit. Mortars and Rocket Launchers may not fire directly, they must fire as artillery.

I like it - consider it officially added to my house rule list as well - thanks :P

They have done though, right down to a bridge carrying halftrack that has no use in the game.

The german engineering half track with the bridge sections is also done by solido (& if I am not mistaken by some other manufacturers as it is a simple conversion of the 251)

- the diecast models by solido have been a staple of 28mm WWII gamers in the states for years - well before we had nearly the choice of 28mm compatible vehicles we have today

...so lots of folks (including me) have that particular vehicle who don't have any BAM figs (like me)

I don't think there is a Mongoose / BAM model stat release conspiracy pact - just a coincidence

Of course the conspiracy theorisit in me reminds us that I have been wrong before

Its not apact, but there was a definite BAM influence on the content in terms of a desire to include models that BAM produced. See elsewhere on the forum for discussions along those lines (but I forget where). Also Agis mentioned this to me when I was flirting with playtesting (alas, no time)

IIRC: There is no big secret here (especially not if DM is involved...).
Mongoose (still with Ian Barstow) had an agreement with BAM to feature there minis in the book and to do some advertisement. BAM in return provided some free minis.
It was then my idea to provide as much rules as possible for the minis already in the BAM range. It was not a "do rules for this or that mini", just a courtesy to the nice chaps of BAM from my side. Mongoose had nothing to do with it.
I did not try to cover the whole BAM range, many of the fine minis they have done are not featured in the book...

Unless of course the scenaro involves getting your engineers into place underfire to bridge something...

Wait... thats not a "points" game scenario. Never mind then.
