Crusade EA

I think the Hyperion AC most closely represents what Hyperions 'should' be like in the Early EA fleet (like the Hyperion from Voice in the Wilderness). Just remove the standard Hyperion (with post- EM war beams) and it makes sense.

Except that does actually represent an assault ship, with extra troops, shuttles and no fighters...

You'd have to switch those back to the basic Hyperion level to get the normal Heavy Cruiser with the same weapons fit.

Or change the 3rd Age to a Hull 6 hyperion heavy cruiser when it gets lasers.

Rather have a Olympus than Chronos. The Chronos is way to slow/fragile to be of any use for it's short ranged firepower. I secretly snigger when a chronos is played against me. You can ignore them for a bit, destroy the ships it's meant to escort then finish it off in a turn before it fires. least the oly gets to shoot and can survive crits far easier then the chronos. It really does need a missle rack or way more speed or just more hits and crew. Compare it to Altarian and it's variants or even the overpowered Prefect. It just doesn't come close in anyway what so ever.

would guess not played many chronos then ;) they tough little buggers with that hull 6 and 3 interceptors, plus once they get where they want they sit there on all stop firing in every direction, bit like a bimith really. and speed 8 isnt that slow, especially when u can APTE and not worry about arcs. great init sink too as no boresight or arcs to worry about.

chronos are a bit slow, and with only being able to take 20 damage, they go boom pretty easily when a SAP beam looks at them.

I've fought against and with chronii... Against them dedicated my omega (3rd v. crusade) to poping chornii (opponent had three). After three turns, three smoking hulks. Granted I used scouts to lock on and reroll misses... but on average an omega can pop a chornos every other turn.

To fragile, to many big weapons out there. Suffers the same problem the hyperion does- throws alot of metal per priority level/hull so it attracts alot of fire from a smart opponent.

For damage dealers I prefer marathons; for initative sinks I prefer the hyperion AC in a campaign; or hermes in a tournement/one off play. If its going to park on my backfield with closed blast doors and take damage with out doing much shooting; the Hyperion AC gets 2.5 times the hull points.

Chronos rock! Hull and weapons are great for Raid. The box set is a must for any Crusade fleet.

For a 5 point Raid I'd go:

4 Chronos
Delphi
4 Thunderbolts
4 Starfuries

How would you break down the Centauri anyway?

Pre 2247
Altarian
Elutarian
Magnus
Balvarin
Centurion
Prefect
Corvan
Demos
Haven
Kutai
Maximus
Morgrath
Octurion
Primus
Razik
Sentri
Sulust
Vorchan
Vorchat

3rd Age
Balvarix
Dargan
Darkner
Amar
Liati
Secundus
Tertius
Rutarian

Crusade
Adira
Vorchar

That's according to the ISDs

The vast bulk of the fleet is in the early period

True.....but that's if you split it by early, third age and crusade. I don't see the Centauri republic making much disticntion for the Third age of Mankind. And whilst I'm sure Londo and Co. are most sympathetic to the Earth Alliance in its hour of need in crusade, it's not a pivotal moment in the Republic's history.

I'd suggest moving the boundaries a bit...

Republic Era - the height of Centauri Power, running to 2209; the Narn Uprising.

Ships coming into service:
Razik Light Fighter
Kutai Gunship
Morgrath Frigate
Haven Patrol Boat
Altarian Destroyer
Vorchan Warship
Vorchar War Scout
Vorchat War Raider
Corvan Scout
Maximus Frigate
Balvarin Carrier
Primus Battlecruiser/Primus Bombardment Crusier
Sentri Fighter
Centurion Attack Cruiser
Octurian Battleship/Octurian Bombardment Ship
Magnus Destroyer

Imperial Era - Covers the resurgance of Centauri power leading up to and following the Narn/Centauri War. 2209-2261

Ships coming into service:
Sulust Escort Destroyer
Elutarian Bombardment Destroyer
Demos Heavy Warship
Prefect Armoured Cruiser
Secundus Battlecruiser/Secundus Bombardment Cruiser
Amar Fast Carrier
Darkner Fast Attack Frigate
Rutarian Strike Fighter
Dargan Strike Cruiser

Post-Fall Era - after the Fall of Centauri Prime, as the Drakh influence becomes more overt (and Drakh technology starts to show up on Centauri Warships...), and the prospect of fighting the ISA rather than the lower-tech Narn and League races becomes more substantial. 2262 onwards.

Ships coming into service:
Balvarix Strike Carrier
Tertius Battlecruiser/Tertius Bombardment Crusier
Liati Advanced Cruiser
Adira Royal Battleship

Obviously there's pull-through; the Vorchan (but not necessarily its variants), Octurian and Sentri obviously...but some things can perhaps be allowed to fall out of the list, The Kutai/Morgrath, for example, which were test bed designs using alien technology as the centari were getting started, and the primus if probably functionally replaced by the tertius (in fact those in service are probably rebuilt into them) when it became availible. Ditto Balvarin/Balvarix
