Crew Quality

There are several rules highly dependent on CQ scores for the various ships.

Problem: No CQ scores are given for the ships in the Fleet Lists.

So how do I tell what ships have what scores?

O-kaaaaayyy...

So, what? We set CQ scores ourselves based on how good we feel we want our crews to be?

Ah, I thought I had seen something like that before, but it just has 1 problem still.
It explains well enough about campaigns, but what about for one-offs?

I'm not likely to get any campaigns around here anytime soon, but I could very possibly get a couple separate games...

default is 4 military grade. it may be higher or lower in campaigns.

see above. But in case it doesnt show. ALL Ships In a standard battle are assumed to have CQ4 (Military Grade)
Except the races that have modifications to CQ (ISA, Psi-corps, Pak'ma'ra).

Would a rule allowing to lower one ship's crew quality and increase another's (of same or lower priority level) by equal amount break anything? Maybe this should be limited somehow, for example you could adjust levels by 2 points maximum (2 up and 2 down).

Ps. got my rulebooks today! After a while I might actually know something about something

I pretend my EA ships are entirely crewed by decendents of Bahamut, blessed with leadership and poise.

Sigh. That would be kinda cool.

Technically speaking, dagkarlove and other are correct in htat default for one-offs is CQ 4.

Nothing in the rules that says you can't use the random crew quality table provided in the book for one-offs too. MGP rules stormtroopers aren't going down break down your door and conficate your minis if you do that :D

If you CQ is 2 or less, then you need to roll to perform any action other than drifting forward at half speed from sheer crew stupidity.

I mean, seriously, we have people who confuse remote controls with microwaves. Whose to say a crew of misfits won't have that one guy who chose Starship Piloting and Tactics as the class to catch up on his beauty nap?

Psst - I'm not being serious, by the way.

In a campaign fleet, you are allowed to swap the CQ values of 2 ships at the very start of the campaign. This is to represent the "Admiral" hand picking a good crew for his flagship. In one-off games I see no reason why the same rule should cause a problem, as long as both players agree to it.

Swapping unrestrictedly could cause balance issues as some ships benefit more from high CQ scores than others. For instance, ships with beam and TL weapons get less benefit from "Concentrate all Firepower" since these weapons cannot get a reroll. Allowing unlimited swaps might encourage certain micro-managing.

I am sure there is nothing wrong if both players agree but it seems slightly against the spirit of the thing. I would say allow one swap and then stick with what you get.

Worth noting also that in a campaign you can earn Ship experience which can be used to raise the Crew Quality of your ships...this is especially useful for scouts!

So are The Vree!! :)

But in a different way, ISA get a +1 to Crew Quality to a max of 6, Vree get a +1 to CQ checks.

So in a campaign if you randomly roll a CQ of 6 for an ISA ship it gets no bonus, but a Vree ship in the same situation will as the bonus is applied to CQ checks and is not subject to a maximum.

That's ok. We have cooler looking uniforms and a better pension plan. ;)
