Confirmed April 11th Tourney in Aldershot

It's imaginatively called, "THe Games Shop" ;)
http://www.pyrosoft.co.uk/abid/802
The map on there is a bit confusing though, it's actually on Wellington St, right near the junction with Union St.

Well done Neil - for both the organization and the victory :D

My apologies to Daniel (Democratus) for treating his Centauri with such ruthlessness... I AM A BAD MAN!

Once more, robbage has ensued... i'm sure that its some sort of conspiracy against me! :P

Unfortunately I did = shameful
I can only say I was quite happy to sit back and watch but unfortunately Burger robbed me of that luxuary...sigh BSG season 4 and tricia helfer will have to wait.
Many thanks to my four opponents and apologies for my rustiness.
I'm looking forward to Charles' next Tourney or maybe the Warlords lads could find a venue for another one later this year?
The aldershot Venue is always very good so I may try for a later one this year if there's interest...but I won't play with anything unless its Narn...does that work?

Also congrats to Digger, he actually won a few games...not with Narn!!!
...and Ben who managed to win with Narn! Hope you guys didn't get lost on the way back?
Thanks again you' all! - Nod to our Texan friend as well..I've never heard Ken apologise as much in a game Lol

It was fun as always, even though coming last :D. Though that is the reason to go, to have fun :D.

Game 1: My EA (Early Years - 3 Rail Hyperions, 2 x Sagis's) vs Alex Centauri (Liatia  and 2 Kutai's) - Yep the EA got totally owned by the Liatia.

Game 2: Vorlons (3 Vorlon Frigates) vs Democratus Centauri (Elutarian, 3 Vorchan, Maximus). Good game with a lot of manuevering. Vorlon's got owned.

Game 3: White Star Carrier vs Digger's Centauri (3 Demos, Maximus, Balvaran, Elutarian). This was a great game. The Whitestar fighters were doing the damage, but then lost 5 out of 7 to an exploding Demos. Then a adrift crit on the White Star Carrier. Game Over. It was one of those games which could have gone either way. Dam that exploding Demos.

Game 4: EA Crusade (Warlock, 2 Marathons, Delphi, 4 Missile Chronos and 2 Hermes - all loaded with e-mines) vs Jim's Narn (Dag'kar, 2 Thentus, 2 G'Vahrn's and a G'Quan). As always a pleasure playing Jim :D.
A Draw on VP's, but lost 5 ships to Jim's 2.

I'd happily arrange one, but I suspect i'm too far "oop North" for atendees.

Aldershot Tourney Report

Half of Greg’s crew made it to the venue in time for a tea, chat and a bacon sandwich. To set up nicely for some serious gaming 

Game 1 – 5 pt skirmish against ISA (Jim)
Me – Balvarin, Demos, Demos, 4 x Haven
Jim – White Star, 6 Blue Stars

I was fairly confident to start with a reasonable number of ships, plus fighters and as ever looked forward to enjoyable game against Jim. The first couple of turns saw the two fleets either side of a dust cloud, with one Demos taking a pot shot against a Blue star – which it dodged. Jim then charged past my fleet – All powering with all ships and hoping his formidable dodging powers would keep him from harm- which they did. I had been happy to match my Havens against the Blues Stars but the accurate guns on the latter proved to be a big factor. The White Star was quickly dispatched but the Blue stars dodged and weaved , killing my Centauri as they did so. Finally I was left with my trust Balvarin pivoting round to get shots whilst its fighters pecked away at the Blue Stars. With the fateful worlds “I have lost this if I don’t get a really good turn” I then killed 4 Blue stars in one go and won the game. Jim, as ever was a great opponent and sport.

Game 2 – the stupid stupid stupid mistake game
Me – Liati, Demos, Kutai, 2 Haven
Greg – 3 Shadow Scouts
On the way down – Greg, Ken and I had chattered about this very match up – which makes my mistake all the more STUPID! Greg and I talked through the problems with the new Haven rule – need to be squadroned if in a Raid game or higher and I then made the mistake – rather than squadron the two together and get a in sink, I squadroned one with the Laiti and 1 with the Kutai. ARGGGHHH – Greg even raised an eyebrow when I did it and said – are you sure! Short game – Greg moved his scouts adeptly, winning Initiative every turn and chopping all my ships up (although I had to keep reminding him about dodge !! ) The Centauri managed to pin and dispatch one scout and bring another within 2 pts of death but it was always a uphill struggle cos I was Stupid!!

Game 3 – Centauri Civil War
Me – Balvarin (assassination choice), Elutarin, Demos x2, Maximus, Corvan
Democratus – Primus (my Target), 3 Vorchan, 1 Maximus
Great game – full of fun and explosions. My fleet cruised forwards, launching fighters as the 3 opponents Vorchan All powered up to a dust cloud about 12” short of my fleet. MY Demos in Hyperspace opened a flanking jump point and my Elutarin hammered a Vorchan not quite out of sight. Both fleets advanced into knife fighting range and hammered each other – one Vorchan and one Demos vanished and another Vorchan and the Balvarin were battered. The Primus took minor damage from the flanking Demos despite the maximus protection. The Primus lumbered into range even as a second Vorchan was hammered, and it and the tow Vorchans dispatched the Balvarin, even as the Elutarin was coming about behind it showering it with damage and crits. The Demos continued the pain, taking the arc facing it off line and permanently destroying its front arc! Mop up proceeded with Daniels fleet unable to see the Corvan (which had emerged into the battle). The Two Vorchan nearly escaped but were cut down and the game ended with the lone Eenemy maximus surrounded by the fleet – who were mostly undamaged. Kudos to the enemy Razik pilots who with the Maximus wiped all mine out!

Game 4 – Shadows
Me – 2 Shadow ships (1 in hyperspace), Stalker, 2 Scout,
Alex – Octurion, Liati (in hyperspace), Primus, 4 Elutarin,
Always going to be one sided and although Alex made very few mistakes but just did not have the fleet to cope with the Shadows. The Elutarin’s lined along the rear edge and the 2 bigger ships moved forwards cautiously. The Shadows used the terrain to advance on the flanks and a Shadow ship shimmered into existence on the rear edge to the side and just in range of an Elutarin. The Laiti opened a jump point. One Elutarin was crippled and the Octurion and Primus sliced up a bit and the same next turn as the Shadows used the terrain to stay out of arcs from the bombardment destroyers. The next turn was the only real chance for some Centauri firing. The Liati chased down one Shadow ship and surviving the fire of a Scout behind it, joined the Elutarins in hammering it, coming within 2pts of pinning it. However the next two turns saw the Liati die to Scouts firing, the Primus with 1 crew point and the Octurion crippled and we called it with the Centauri having no chance…….at all. Alex took it all very well given the lack of chances he had.

Great tournament and managed a third place – nice medal Neil 

Thanks to all involved – especially those who popped over the pond! Great fun 

Didn't stop us before :)

depends who lives in such a location who can source a room and organise etc.
I think the midpoint is somewhere not to far North of Walsall.... ahem...

There are those of us who regard you as a southerner, hiffano. ;)

Which means the midpoint might be further north than you believe, and a more northerly venue might even encourage more of us northerners to attend...

Incidentally, did anyone get any pictures of the tournament?

I guess it might be a bit last-minute, but have you guys thought about trying to steal some space at Birmingham Games Expo in May?
