[CONAN] Hyborian Age Technology

[Supplement Four]

It seems that the tech level of the Hyborian Age is a bit behind a typical Tolkien inspired fantasy world.

It seems to me (and I may be vastly wrong), that the Hyborian Age tech is about that of earth around 500 AD.

Most fantasy worlds seem to be more centered around 1000-1500 AD.

Thoughts?

There is technology from the High and Late Middle Ages and even from the Early Modern Period in Conan.

Real full plate armour like that worn by i.e. aquilonian knights only came up towards the end of the 14th century.

Naval technology is even more advanced, especially argossean and zingaran ship designs; i.e. carracks (15th century) and galleons (16th century).

Technology in the Hyborian Age runs the gamut from the Stone Age to the Early Modern Period.

Yeah, I would say the Hyborian age is way past Tolkien's middle earth in terms of technology. If anything Tolkien's world is more like 500AD - the only armour is mail, the main weapons are swords, bows and spears, people are forever referring to "shield walls" and what have you.

The Hyborian Age is more like 1500AD if gunpowder hadn't been invented.
