[CONAN] Craft and Ponder

Here's something to ponder. Let's say your sword is victim to a Sunder attack. Your sword doesn't break, but its hit points are reduced.

The Crafting rules allow for repairing items, and I'm assuming returning HP to swords is a regular activity among smiths. But, is there anything a character can do in the wild? Do you think there's some sort of Crafting check that could be made with the character using a whet stone? To allow for the character to sharpen out nicks and stuff like that? Maybe return 1 HP only to the sword?

As always, looking for your input and opinion.
 
I suppose so, but I'm not sure that nicks you can remove with a stone really constitute much in the way of HP damage. You could tell your players it's something to return 1 HP worth of damage, but anything beyond 1HP of damage to the sword without too much imbalance for sure. Probably a simple Wis or Int roll though.

I was thinking of capping it at 1 hp, too, and I think a Craft (Weaponsmith) roll would be the task.

In fact, I think a maximum of 1 hp, per blade. For example, if your 10 hp blade takes 6 points of damage in a fight, you can use your whet stone, and about an hour or two, to regain 1 HP. If you fight again the next day, and your sword, which now has 5 HP takes 3 HP more damage, then you can't regain another HP until the weapon is fixed 100%.

Or....maybe 1 HP at a setting wouldn't be too bad. I dunno. Have to think on it.
