Classic Traveller to Come to TAS

From the responses we have had, I think this looks like a goer! Give us a little time to put some templates together and clear some room within the TAS programme, and we'll get this up and running!

Matt,

You mentioned publishers needing to change product covers that are similar to the LBBs and I wanted to ask if/how that will affect Cepheus Engine products. For example, would this policy also require someone like Michael Brown to pull their line of Cepheus shorts to make new covers because they're somewhat similar to the LBBs? I ask because I'm planning to launch an imprint of adventures using CE mechanics. Not only is the LBB concept clean and elegant, it's a popular design customers identify with. And, more importantly, doesn't require a small publisher to spend funds hiring a cover artist. A little clarification would be appreciated, although I'm happy you mentioned this now before I entered the design phase. Thanks.

Mongoose Traveller v2 is compatible with Classic Traveller.

So what's the possibility that a supplement or adventure can say it could be used with both?

That could complicate things and muddy the waters.

But...

Given that these are PDFs, there is no reason you could not have a Classic PDF on TAS, and a 2e title - and then in both include the other file for free...

I like the idea, but the whole LBB cover creates an issue. Does that mean that no one else can use the LBB trade dress anymore?

What is the alternative?
Good question.

We will be in contact with people who have posted Classic-style covers on TAS to ask them to change - however, we will also be providing a template cover they can use if they so wish. Should be a fairly easy changeover.

Will there be additional style guidelines? One question for me would be which fonts to use. For fan works, I've used URW Classico and U001 as alternatives to Optima and Univers, respectively. But as far as I understand, those are free only for personal or non-commercial use. Does anybody know of good alternatives?

Zurich BT at 8.5 point is visually identical to the print in The Traveler Book. I think the Classic Traveller books were Univers 55, but don't quote me on that. Zurich is a clone of Univers.

That's an actual improvement on the CT look :)
This works!
I noticed that the 2D Deck plans are no longer available as downloads for TAS.
Has the basic concept changed? Is there a way we can reference these drawings in TAS material?
For example, I would love to use these images (and then direct reader's to the Adventure Class Ship's books)

Just to keep you all updated on TAS Classic, this is the kind of cover we will be posting (logo will change) and you will need to use for Classic Traveller titles. You will be free to change the bar colours and title (obviously), so they are all instantly recognisable.

We are playing around with a template for the interior (which you will not be required to use, but it is there if you want it), and we are also putting together a cover template for existing TAS books that look a bit too close to Classic Traveller - you will not be required to use that template either, but we will need you to change your existing cover to avoid confusion.

All comments welcomed!CTAS cover_8.5x11_1.png
